Bhupinder Singh Hooda: Haryana Went From Highest Investment to Highest Unemployment Under BJP Rule

In an interview to GAURAV VIVEK BHATNAGAR of The Wire, Hooda exuded confidence that Congress would secure a full majority. He said the workers were enthused by the changes.
The former CM also claimed that the BJP’s first government in the state, led by Manohar Lal Khattar, did not fulfil any of the 154 promises made to the electorate in the last elections.
Hooda said in five years of BJP rule farmers suffered as the cost of production went up and procurement of their produce declined. The law and order in the state deteriorated and the government was unable to handle big agitations efficiently.
He said Haryana went from No. 1 state in per capita income and investment and sports to becoming No. 1 in crime and unemployment.
Ending months of intra-party squabbles, the Congress recently made its two-term former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda the legislative party leader and head of the state’s election management committee for the upcoming Assembly elections. Soonafter Hooda toured all 10 districts of the state with new state president Kumari Selja.
With INLD having split, he said, it would be a direct fight between BJP and Congress. He also denied meeting BSP chief Mayawati for an alliance and asserted that the Congress would go alone in the polls.
On the issue of BJP using Article 370 and National Register of Citizens as poll issues by connecting them to ‘nationalism’, Hooda said the elections will be fought on local issues. “Amendment to Article 370 is now a law and NRC is law of the land and so no one is questioning them.”
