If you grew up in the 70's these and quick sand were your greatest fears.

Usually piranha aren't so vicious like that but what happens when they're in a body of water that's sealed off is they eat everything in there except each other and turn to cannibalism after the other food sources are depleted. Then only the strongest most aggressive ones survive and they live in an almost constant state of brink of death hunger. They don't want to eat each other and possibly die in the fight unless they're really about to starve. They don't want to eat too much and be too tired and full to fight because the others are looking for that chance to get them.. it happens a lot in nature because the density of the rainforest jungle vegetation. If there's not enough rain the roots are so thirsty they drink up water at a rate nothing like what we see anywhere else. So many trees so densely together. Roos systems tangled together grown into and atop each other. Layers after layer of different kinds of trees, grasses, moss and fungi all in one place. You can't find a square inch of land without multiple different species of plants growing there. It's so thirsty if there's not enough rain it dries up the land and you're left with parts of a lake that connected to a river that gets dried up slowly and sealed off and becomes a small pond. The pond quickly becomes smaller and smaller. The animals in the pond slowly dying being eaten by the predators in that tiny eco system and a lack of edible vegetation and you can't have so many fish in one body of water anyway there's not enough of whatever they need from the water to support them all. They all due iff so fast you have a brief period where all that's left is a group of super hungry, super angry, alpha male piranhas and they are starving and vicious. They actually will swarm like that and rip a cow apart. What happens is wild animals, humans, or cattle being herded will end up falling into these little trap pools in the jungle. Especially when they get formed that way they're hard to see. They can be covered in a layer of scum, dirt, and leaves and shit. It's what was once a lake so the plants are dense and a lot of starved and dead plants, animal remains and waste, and just a whole lakes worth of scum and debris and crap all reduced to one little pond. Another reason why the animals die so fast the water is thick with mud and debris and very poor oxygen levels and everything.. it can look just like the normal forest floor sometimes and you have no idea until you step on it and fall in. Next thing you know before you can blink you're being ripped apart and struggling in the muddiest, most foul thickest swampy muck water as hundreds of piranha shred you on the spot.. normal piranha, especially ones in captivity are actually very slow going and pretty safe. Watch videos of people putting their hands in the tank and petting them and stuff like that. One guy even had a handful of a fish fillet and the piranha was just like whatever bro 🤷🏻‍♂️🙄 lol. That's why you see such a huge difference in the ones you usually see in captivity and under normal conditions vs the stories you hear of ox's being shredded to bones in seconds.. it's crazy just how much life is in that ecosystem. How dense the vegetation can grow and how many different super animals survive in one spot together.. it's truly beautiful and horrible and disgusting at the same time. That soil and water is so nutrient rich and oxygenated it just spawns life like nowhere else on earth..

This is why I don’t swim in rivers, lakes, and creeks. If I can’t see under me I’m not going in

The lesson learned is don't judge a body of water by it's cover, you never know what's beneath the surface. 🤔
