It is important to have a go-bag designed for your local conditions. Here in southern Nevada, the contents of one of my lightweight backpacks I keep ready, if we need to quickly evacuate by Jeep and pick-up truck across desert roads, is specifically tailored for dealing with strong sunlight, dust storms, smoke pollution and lack of water.

So the desert backpack has a long-sleeved, SPF 45, thin knit pullover top; a washable filter mask with disposable filters (the type of mask people wear when ATVing on desert trails); clear, non-vented, UV-blocking ski googles (for dust storms); a lightweight, foldable boonie hat with chin strap; a metal device to replace a missing handle on a water faucet (service stations often lack the faucet handle on an exterior water spigots) and a rechargeable headlamp with charging cord to use in a vehicle.

And we keep some filled 5-gallon water jugs, boxes and small buckets of instant meals, a small butane stove + fuel cylinders, a nested set of backpacker cooking pots, local maps, U.S. travel atlas, sleeping bags, cash and spare ammo ready to load into the Jeep and truck. And we have pet carriers so we can take our two housecats with us (they are experienced travelers). Of course, if it is a more leisurely evacuation and the paved roads are not obstructed, we can tow the Jeep behind the motorhome and also load up the crew cab pick-up truck and head out in a lumbering convoy on one of our tested evacuation routes.

The longest we have been traveling by motorhome is a month ambling all the way to the Canadian border in North Dakota and back during the summer or all the way to the east coast of Florida and back in the winter, so evacuating a few hours down the road to get out of the danger zone should not be all that difficult. And we keep the fuel tanks of all our vehicles at least half-full at all times.

Very very good video. Can you post a link for all those checklists?
I also have a bug out plan... that I want to set in motion when there is still time. I live in Holland and natural disasters are less likely here. The deteriorating international relations and tensions worry me more. Once SHTF (war), everybody hits the same roads at the same time. Also there is a possibility (war) that the usual roads become military targets. Avoid highways, bridges, river crossings, don't come too close to military targets like power plants, airports, harbours....

I haven’t bought into the panic agenda social media is fueling in America. I love your channel because it makes me think. Very few people have a bug out location and with a population of 4 homes per square mile here we have more time to make choices. We also have far more food than we can carry if we need to go off grid. Being able to sustain off nature is critical. Can you hunt, fish, start a fire, build shelter? A fire starter, firearm, fishing pole, axe are far more critical than documents. Can you vanish from society? The biggest threat to us are starving city people who will be without fuel and food in 3 days or less in a bug out worst case scenario situation.

Can you provide link to the forms/lists that you shown? Great video. My husband loses his keys and wallet about every other day LOL, I even set up a spot for him to put them when he comes in from work but he still hasn't been able to get in the routine. Thanks for all your videos, they are very helpful.

Fire blankets are also good items to have because they don't have a use by date, and can be easily added to carry in a bag. They're not as good as extinguishers for the variety of fires, but compared to nothing, or in addition to an extinguisher, they're really useful. Not to mention often a lot cheaper to buy if money is a consideration.

Thank you. I just looked at your blog post "life prepper" and saw it was over 200 pages to print out. As was requested
below, can you provide the lists you included there? They are an invaluable resource. Thank you.

Unfortunately, nowhere to bug out. It will probably be my car, a hotel or a city run shelter. Worst, most city shelters will not allow my pet. Winter is coming. On the bright side I am prepared if I do not have to leave home!
