German flirting is so subtle that once it took me 6 MONTHS to realize that my German friend wanted to ask me out. Polish guys are more direct and straightforward.

My now German husband was very much to the point, which I loved. We both had gone to a movie at the university community room and when he entered he asked me a question about the coffee offered at the event. Then, he sat next to me and kept asking me if I understood the movie (the movie was in German and I’m not German).
I realized he really wanted to talk. So, at the end of the movie I asked him if he was German, after that we talk for an hour or more and he asked me for my phone number and called me the next day to invite me for dinner at his apartment. That was in 1993 and we’re still together.

Once I fell in love with a German boy, and he didn't flirt with me at any time, but he was very affectionate and always worried about me, until the day came when he told me he liked me. I think that reserved but careful and romantic German way is really cute 🤍

To be honest there was a German guy that was pretty quiet and nervous then when he drank he got super confident with me in flirting. So a few days later I asked him to hang out and he kept freaking out and postponing and eventually ran away even though it's pretty clear he's attracted. No idea how to fix this 😂

Ein ehemaliger Mitbewohner vor ca. 12 Jahren hatte immer viel Erfolg bei der Unibibliothek. Er würde mit sowas wie "Hey, was liest du?" anfangen, falls die Frau ein interessantes Buch bei sich hatte und nicht deutlich beim Arbeiten war. Falls die Frau kein Interesse hatte, war's OK. Falls die Frau nett war, würde er sie zu einem Kaffee in der Uni-Cafeteria einladen (der damalige Preis: 70 Cent mit Studentenausweis). Direkt aber auch nicht zu direkt, eine nette Geste, nicht alkoholisiert, die Frau könnte alles immer abbrechen und sagen, dass sie wieder arbeiten müsste und falls die Frau nicht die richtige Lebensabschnittsgefährtin war, hat er nur 70 Cent ausgegeben.

I was at a bar in Saarbrücken and I said to a guy, "wow du bist so schön!" and my new ukrainian and german colleagues were like "Wow you Americans are so good at flirting!". I just thought he was handsome. I wasn't even flirting! Hahaha

Ich finde als Franzoser das Video sehr lustig. Ich bin selbst zum Flirten gar nicht begabt, aber die Weise, wie die beiden Männer ein Flirt spielen, lässt mich lachen. In Paris werden die jungen Frauen jeden zweiten Meter von einem Mann gestört, der sagt: "Schöne Fräulein, ich finde Sie sehr hübsch... Hast du Lust, dass wir zusammen etwas trinken?". Ich habe schon eben einmal in der U-Bahn eine witzige Frau afrikanischer Herkunft getroffen, die nach ihrem Namen und ihrer Telefonnummer gefragt wurde, und dem Kerl antwortete: "ich habe keinen Namen, kein Handy, meine Eltern haben mir keine Identität gegeben". Trotzdem muss ich auch sagen, dass das kein Flirt sein soll. Das ist echt ein Überfall!

As a Southern European I always found couples in Germany and Austria very interesting in that I never knew they were couples. In Austria I was at a gathering and this nice good looking Austrian talked to me (they are all incredibly nice and good looking: Austrian men and women IMHO), he insisted in paying for my beer and then when he went to get us more drinks a nice girl comes to me and says: “please don’t steal my boyfriend”. I was utterly confused and asked who her boyfriend was and she said the boy I had been talking to and I quickly politely excused myself when he came back, told him nothing of the conversation and just sat by the bar and spoke to the Australian bartender who then offered me some more drinks! Fun and unusual night! 😄🙈
