Treasure Island tourism on hold after Hurricanes Helene, Milton

The beach communities were some of the hardest hit areas during Helene and Milton. Treasure Island was devastated by flooding and wind damage.

5 hurricanes in 2 years is devastating! Milton goes from a tropical storm to a 185mph cat 5 in 30 hours. And the severe damage is from Naples to the Big Bend and many inland communities. My home never had flooding to speak of till Idalia put 2 feet in the foyer and a bedroom and i spent two months fixing everything myself. Helene trashed the house with 4.5 feet of putrid water throughout the house! I'm done. No way I'm fixing the house this time as it will just happen again and again. What's needed is a fortress home built 12 feet up in the air and I'm too tired for that at this point! I'm a lifelong resident of Florida and it's obvious to me that things have changed and it is going to have a dramatic affect on how we inhabit this state especially on the West Coast!

I experienced one hurricane in my life on the island. The speed at which the community bounced back was amazing. It will do it again.

Sloppy Joe's is one of my favorite Reasturants on Treasure Island. I have been vacationing at Treasure Island for 6 years and we go every April and it breaks my heart to see what happened! My prayers are with all of the Hotel owners 🙏

I have driven along the Pinellas County beach communities from Pass-a-Grille to Clearwater Beach numerous times. I was always amazed at how many homes and buildings were built on a GD barrier island in Florida at ground level! What did you expect, Florida? What you did, Florida, was commit a form of suicide by being extremely foolish in building literally thousands of ground level buildings on barrier islands in a state very prone to hurricanes. You literally did this to yourself, Florida! Florida is like watching a good friend make terrible life changing choices, despite being warned of the dark consequences of their fate again, and again, and again! You made your bed, Florida. Now you have to sleep in the bed that made for yourself!

Remember Anna Paulina Gamberzky (Fake Name Luna) not only voted against increasing funding for hurricane disaster relief, she insured that funding for Pinellas county would go straight to herself and representatives for their repairs first.
