Substance 3D just released their all new Unity plugin and it's very very very good. You can use Substance 3D Designer ssbar files directly inside the Unity game engine, even if you don't own Susbtance Designer. We also look at where you can get some substance materials for free.

This is some of the best news I've heard in a long while! Earlier this week I've been try to get ProBuilder and PolyBrush to work. This won't replace those but it sure will help for future uses.

The problem with this substance plugin are adobe does not release constant updates to support multiple unity versions and this plugin gets deprecated very fast. So building a workflow around this plugin gets very risky and frustrating.

In the past they implemented it to unity and it was just very very unstable, making the editor and the crash quite often. I hope this time it will be better.

But wouldn't that be a waste of resources though? As it would be generating a new texture everytime you updated it? Which could be every frame depending

I tried this long ago and the plugin was very bad, Seems like they fixed up a lot of things and I'm excited to try this since I still have over 700gb of SBSAR files from old work I've done. I really hope it's stable and they keep the plugin up to date.

But you will end with lots of individual materials and lots of drawcalls. What about a way to combine the materials to reach the 1 mesh one 1 material?

all rust is because of oxidization but not all rust has the same amount of redness do to oxidization. So amount of rust might be talking about the surface area that has begun to oxidize and oxidization might be talking about how red is that rust

In 2018 or something they had that cool live link to painter but they dropped the support for that. Seems like this is not a direct replacement.

The real question is once you’re done messing with the materials can you export it with the textures edited to have your unity HDRPPBR maps so you don’t have to use the substance file as a shader

Welp, can't use it.
Just get a crapton of ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
Parameter name: index whenever I import any .sbsar
