i feel so sorry for people who are so pressed over veggie sushi. cucumber maki is very popular in japan, more so than i expected. source: my boyfriend who happens to be japanese.

Even though it looks like gimbap, its sushi because of the rice. Sushi rice is seasoned with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt while gimbap rice is seasoned with only sesame oil and salt. Hope that makes sense to everyone thats confused as to why its not called gimbap even thought it looks like gimbap

Tip: Soak your knife in water before you cut the sushi. It makes it easier to cut through.

Sweet potato tempura sushi is SO GOOD! It was my favorite even before I went vegan. So so good.

For you Vegans out there: you can make Seitan with wheatgluten chickpeaflour, tofu, chickpeas and various spices.
It has the consistancy of chicken. Fry the cooked seitan in Teriyaki sauce and cut it in stripes. Add carrots and roll it INSIDE OUT (meaning the rice is at the bottom as you roll) now add avocado ontop and press it.

A very nicely textured vegan alternative. For meateaters like me: simply replace seitan with chicken.

This is not Kimbap! I can't believe how many people are getting this wrong... even Koreans. The rice was prepared with vinegar. Kimbap is prepared with sesame oil.

The title could have been more specific to "Veggie Norimaki 4 Ways", but who would understand that.

This is sushi i can actually try to make at home because I am not getting my hands on any sushi grade fish, I is poor. And if I really need it I'll add my poor womans canned tuna or salmon. Thanks for the recipes! Missing my favourite part though - toppings. I need to go look up some sauce ideas and make some crunch tempura bits.

Alright I’m gonna leave a quick tip in case someone finds this
I made sushi and it came out chewy: so Reddit says that I should roast the Nori on a stove flame (just a quick pass or so) to crisp it up because contact with humid air makes it chewy
Another thing- don’t wait too long after putting rice on it because water from rice will obviously do the same. Roll and eat it immediately.
