Our household has a rule ... learn everything about an animal you are bringing in, internet, books, breeders etc. They all have needs and you want to give them a great life!

We’ve got 2 big sulcatas, they are so friendly! Luckily in Texas we give em a large space on our property, we’ve got a insulated hot box for the winter too lol

When he said “Bearded Dragon” I made eye contact with my rescue beardie as a (mainly) first time Reptile owner. He eats well, he is getting a MAJOR tank upgrade as he is currently in a 40 gallon going on 120 gallon. I love my beardie to an unexpected amount. He is cuddly, which is sometimes unwanted for a spikey reptile, he is energetic and so sweet! I can’t remember how lonely my room felt before him. I love my baby Iroh. If you get where I got the name leave me a comment please :))

my savanah monitor is a great companion, however someone needs to be willing to get creative and build their own enclosures, also food is a big expense that one doesn't expect when thinking about one

We have leopard geckos and have been researching our next reptile. I am so glad to hear someone say that bearded dragons aren’t for beginners! Every time I read a care guide for them I keep thinking, “Nope nope nope.”

I agree about bearded dragons. We've had a corn snake and a rough green snake and were going to get a bearded dragon next. Thankfully we did our research first! It's just too much for us! But I keep reading it's a "beginner" pet!

I loved your comment about cutting open the snake and there's Uncle Bob! Funny as hell!

For bearded dragons I recommend a custom built 4ftx2ftx2ft cage with rough tiles.
1. The tiles trim down their claws, and maintains the heat of the cage.
2. When your beardie poops it's super easy to clean up, and wipe down
Sorry I looove beardies, and in a few years I'm moving up to a Tegu.

Most definitely a good call on the iguanas, I bought 3 babies years ago. They ended up getting huge. They bit, tail slapped and scratched. They ended up taking over a entire room. They're also great escape artists too!

Thank you SO MUCH for mentioning bearded dragons!
I also got them as my first reptile and they are so much more work than people say...
Let me make a list:
1. People always say that their omnivorous diet is great because you can feed them a lot of different things. That is absolutely false, instead they NEED to feed on a lot of different things and you also have to learn what is actually healthy or poisonous to them. They also eat a lot and especially the insect feeders can get really expensive.

2. Their poop smells horrible. I know that you can prevent this by keeping their cage clean, but their enclosure will smell if you miss it even once.

3. Very prone to metabolic bone disease, so you need to ensure that your lighting is on point to keep them healthy. It is just devastating to see these deformed beardis from beginners who got the lighting wrong.

Great video. I would also add green tree pythons, red eyed crocodile skinks, tokay geckos, dart frogs, and larger fresh water turtles (like sliders).

Good list but I would probably rearrange it a bit and add venomous. To the list.

1. Venomous and then I'm not talking hognose but. Cobras, vipers not necessarily big or demanding animals but mistakes might lead to death.
2. Big stuff and here I would include iguanas with all bigger varanus, crocodilians and teju.
3. Chameleons
4. Big tortus.
5. Rainbow boa

In Canada in the 90's a big box pet store sold my older brother a chameleon without knowing the care it needed (the store gave him a pamphlet) so he thought he was all set up for it. he loved this guy so much and it dropped pretty fast. they didn't even tell him they needed humidity. they told him it was like getting an iguana (which he had some experience with) but smaller. he was crushed.
