2022 Trek Marlin Lineup Compared!! What’s The Difference Between All 5 Bikes??

Here it is! The video all of you have been waiting for: Comparing the 2022 Trek Marlin 4, Marlin 5, Marlin 6, Marlin 7, and Marlin 8 with one another. I compare every single component on each of these bikes like the brakes, suspension forks, drivetrains, and the drivetrain components like the cassettes and shifters. I also give my thoughts at the end to explain which bike is the best for a specific riding style, and which one is my favorite.

This video ended up being pretty long this year because there’s another bike now, and most of the bikes have a lot of differences to cover. Regardless, I hope this video helps you understand all the similarities and differences!

Corrections / Updates to video:
1) The Marlin 5 and 6 actually both use the SR Suntour XCT 30 fork. The Marlin 5 uses the XCM only in the XXS frame size.
2) The 2022 Marlin 7 is the same bike as the 2021 model, but has another color option and uses tubeless ready Bontrager Kovee TLR rims instead of the Bontrager Connection rims.
3) All Marlins have 1-1/8'' head tubes, so they are not tapered.
4) Technically none of these frames are internal dropper post compatible, but I have made a full video on that if you want more details.
5) Some 2022 Marlins have been coming with MAXXIS Ikon tires, but this is likely only due to the shortage related to COVID. These tires have a more aggressive tread pattern than the Bontrager ones and also have a higher tpi, which essentially means they are a higher quality tire.

Honestly, Trek needs to pay you to do product training. This is the best breakdown of any bike comparison I've seen. Your content keeps getting higher in quality. Thanks for another great video!

This is hands down the best bike model evaluation/comparison I’ve seen. An engineer and numbers guy, you hit all the high points and details, and did so clearly at a very good measured pace. Bravo, and thanks for the info and putting together this video!

I was looking at getting a Marlin 5 or 6, and after going to a Trek store the rep recommended the 6 based on what I plan on using it for. Your video sealed it for me, and I'll be getting the 6 later this week. Thank you, friend!

Fantastic review. This makes me confident in my order of a Marlin 6. Haven't ridden in years and I'm a heavy guy and wanted something not over the top or cheap. I think I chose the right value. Thank you for this video, very comprehensive.

Thank you for saving me hours upon hours of research and excel spreadsheet comparisons:)

Again, we’ll summarized and clearly explained for those of us that were somewhat overwhelmed with all the features.

For my purposes …Marlin 7 it is! Wish it came with better tires but that can be a future upgrade unless it comes with a surprise in the form of the maxxis tires …

Thank you! Here in Costa Rica there is zero collaboration from the guys who sell Trek, they never respond to questions or deny information, for example, last year I asked for a Marlin 7 on M/L, they told me it was not possible as there is only M or L, I payed for the M and asked what model is the best (they never mentioned the M8) waited for months, once it was delivered it came with scratches and no lubrication, also, loose stem, they never provided any support (they only respond over whatsapp and normally after a couple of days as there is no email or phone number), asked for replacement parts and told me that they do not sell replacements for lower end bikes, I trust Trek but because of my experience here, videos like yours are the best way to really know what we are getting and you do it in a very professional way, I would love to have a guy like you working in my local shop

This breakdown was like getting a 4 year degree in Trek University. I'm buying my first bike that could be a hobby bike for flat and gravel roads not even a mountain bike. I'm gonna focus on looking for Trek in my area.

Awesome video

As much as I wanted the 6, I ended up getting the 5. It was on sale and the trails I ride in Florida are nothing crazy and on sand.

I got the marlin 6 to holdout for a full suspension when they're available. It's been a lot of fun on Colorado trails and it holds up to all my abuse!

This is a great Trek channel, and you are a natural presenter and creator, thanks for your work. I am a Trek Sacramento Cycle customer, I bought my Trek 830 from your store in 1990. I still ride this bike every day and I can attest to Trek's quality of construction. I am now a bit older and wiser than when I bought my Trek 830, and as such am in the market for a new bike. I will come and see you soon. I am at a crossroads as to what to buy, as my riding patterns are different than they were 32 years ago. I am wrestling with this model, the Marlin 8, the FX Sport 5.... I'm sure you can help with my decision when I stop by.
Thanks again for doing this work on YT!

I have the marlin 6 2020 miami green xs, and I’ve had it for a long time and I love it. Bought some upgrades today for it. I actually got it for a deal, only £300!

This fantastic comparison of features and components is just what I needed to find a replacement for my rusty ol' banger.
Long story short: Hello Marlin 6, time to come home.

Well framed videos. Good explanations. I pre-ordered the Marlin 6 2022 due to availability before this video came out and nice seeing a breakdown between this one and the rest of the lineup.

Shame about the fork not being the XCM, but still good to see it has some great components there.

Can't wait to get it in October
