I ended up getting a marlin 5 gen 2. Its my first MTB and ive already made PR for myself! Just now i hit my 2nd 100+km run clocking at 120km with that bike and ive only had it for a few months!! Definitely loving then bike.

To anyone wanting one of these to start out on, please take my advice and get a 7 or 8. The 4/5/6 are okay to commute, but fact is the forks are dreadful and the drivetrains don’t last. I have a 6 and I poured £400 into it before I realised it just wasn’t gonna be what I want it to be. Sold all the aftermarket parts and made it into a commuter again now runs alongside my remedy. If you have a serious passion to get into riding, you’ll save yourself more in the long run with the 7 or the new 8

I love my '19 Marlin 7 ive upgraded everything on it except for the rock shox and there still running nice and smooth, and I've taken it off a 6 foot drop and the frame is solid, definitely a good bike stock and full upgraded
Would recommend for learners

I got the 2015 trek marlin 7 when I was in 8th grade, really like the green color they need to bring it back, Bike has been completely underwater on 3 occasions (creek riding is fun), broke probably around 6 chains, 3 rear derailleurs, I would take apart the forks and re-grease every 6 months or so. Re-greased wheel bearings too. Never replaced the tires though those things were about worn through (ride em till they blow). I bought a 2019 trek roscoe 8 and gave the marlin to a friend, who also refuses to waste money of tires but he rips through trails with the bald tires no problem.

I got my wife a 2021 Marlin 5 in grey and Teal. I got a 2021 Marlin 6 in Blue and since I can't find anymore bikes near me, I ordered a 2022 Marlin 5 in dark grey for my son. For now he rides a 1997 Trek 850 to and from soccer practice. Surprisingly, the Trek 850 is still lighter than the new Marlins.
