Shocking Effects of Taking an Occasional Sleeping Pill

Sleeping pills are not safe for anyone! Not for people with congestive heart failure (CHF), and not for healthy adults with insomnia. We are not talking about minor issues; we're talking about problems leading to hospital re-admissions, death, or an increased risk for developing cancer!

According to information presented in May of 2014 at the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology in Athens, Greece, the risk for a major cardiac event in patients discharged from the hospital with CHF is increased 8 fold. And, because patients with CHF often have insomnia, they are usually given prescriptions for sleeping pills!

In another article published in the February 2012 issue of the British Medical Journal, adults using sleeping pills that included Restoril, Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata, and some antihistamines such as Benadryl, had a 3 fold increased risk for early death and a 35% increased risk for developing cancer. Wow! People using as little as 1-2 sleeping pills per month had a 360% increase in these risks and those taking just one pill every 3 nights had a 530% increase in these risks.

I used Zolpidem for 21 years and decided to taper off. Can not afford rehab. Withdrawal is hell. 18 days no sleep and counting. I suspect it will take a month in my case due to the lenght I was on. I tapered too fast but I refuse to go back on the pills. To those who desire to get off them, here is my suggestion. If you are using 10mg Zolpidem, dissolve the 10mg in 10ml water and every tenth night, remove 1ml and take the rest. When you get to 3ml, switch to Melatonin 2-3 mg 2 hours before bedtime. Fof those with serious addiction problems craving Zolpidem or Ambien, ask your doctor for literally 1 or two tablets of Naltrexone 50mg. (not a packet). Dissolve the tablet into 50ml water and put 1-2ml solution on your tongue. Within a few days your addiction will start to break. This helps for sugar, carbs, caffeine, sleeping pills and food addictions as well (and a lot more) It breaks the pathways of addiction in the brain. It will help to minimise a relapse. A word of warning, the low dose Naltrexone doesn't work well with the Melatonin and will result in strange dreams or nightmares. So use LDN for a month or three depending on the addiction, stop and move on to Melatonin even if you still can't sleep. Unfortunately you will have to white knuckle the rebound insomnia but if you take the tapering slow, you should experience less rebound. Good luck guys. I might be a zombie right now but my memory is restoring and I'm already seeing a difference in my work etc. The night you sleep for 5 hours straigbt without Zolpidem is when you know you are over the worst.

"Don't drink coffee after 12pm, " "enjoy some refreshing chamomile tea, " and "don't be stressed!" is not going to cut it. Doctors have no good solutions for hard-core insomniacs; it's very easy to sit there and say "don't use Benadryl" or whatever. A doctor who says "medicine is never the right move, ever" should try getting 1000 nights of poor sleep in a row and see how they feel.

I suffer from severe depression with suicidal tendencies. I also have sleep apnoea. I have just been prescribed zopiclone, which is contraindicated for patients with sleep apnoea!

Healthy suggestions don't work for hardcore insomniacs. Tried it all, benzodiazepines work, but you have to cycle off and on. Just reality😐

They should have s tressed the withdrawal. Even when taken as directed for a short period of time benzos cause a terrible withdrawal. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this evil class of drugs,

I've been taking a combination of 30 mg temazepam(Restoril) and 4 mg tizanidine(muscle relaxer) for several years now with no ill effects whatsoever. It's a magical formula I've discovered through trial and error. It works like a charm and like I've said, has no hangover or undesirable side effects. Maybe I'm lucky.

I wouldn't take anything for insomnia other than the occasional Seconal.
