Dad, a professional decorator, always advised starting in the middle and working outwards, that way you always got the paper even both sides. If one is using a pattern paper, always buy more rolls then needed, as the pattern will need to match. They should match in their dye numbers just like fabric or wool.

You wanna try getting woodchip off that's been glossed and multiple layers underneath that! Craig is very talented but I'm afraid that hurt me watching him this time.

If you have any wallpaper to strip the golden rule is let the water do the work. If you brush water over the paper. Once will never be enough so keep going over it every few minutes. You'll then find the paper will almost fall off. Also if applying any water to walls make sure to turn the electrics off to the sockets. Also if your only doing 1 wall then you cut to each corner tight but if doing a full room then add 6mm on each corner so the next sheet covers it up. Depending on the paper each corner you cover will need a stronger paste ie border adhesive etc
Also when hanging paper you mostly start at the furthest corner from as you walk in a room. And also the joints of the paper are easily hidden more depending which way you go around the room. Hope I've helped some 😀

Other master paperer's say to run it horizontally if you intend to wallpaper it. That way no seams will show of the liner if there is any separation of the wallpaper seams later on.

The videos i've been watching say you should soak the lining paper with the paste for the manufacturers recommended time or for roughly 10 minutes then lay the paper horizontally across the wall, if you put the paper on straight away without letting it soak the paper will continue to expand while stuck to the wall and you'll get bubbles behind the paper. If you intend to put the paper on vertically you should put the first sheet in the middle of the wall while using a plumbline or other leveling device to make sure it's straight otherwise if the first paper is not straight then the rest of the sheets will end up lopsided and the error magnified.

I'll give 'The Craig' a tip on stripping. Use the long razor scraper like on here because they are better full stop. Take a knife or edge of the razor scraper, lightly score the paper in a criss cross fashion. Take your sponge & water, wipe it over the scored area. Obviously it will soak in better, go over with water once more. Then if you don't have a steamer you can use an adjustable setting heat gun on a reasonable setting over the wet area & scrape it off easier. It has to be fairly wet otherwise you will just dry it back out. And the gun not too hot or it will scorch the paper. It essentially, briefly steams the water that has soaked through lifting it off in much the same way as a steamer.

I find the steamer cracks the plaster underneath, you can practically hear it pop; i always remove the steamer pad and just use steam out of the hose that way the steam is not concentrated on one spot. Thanks for taking your time to make the video.

I’d let the paper soak for a least 5 mins to expand before hanging on the wall

why wouldn't you use a pocket knife or something to cut the wallpaper when theres excess on the wall

Another tip is to caulk around the ceiling, down the corners and alone the skirting and let dry, that way when you blade knife the paper to size it doesn’t tear, it glides through the caulk and you get a perfect cut :)

Wouldn't it be easier and more accurate to use a Stanley knife to trim the excess paper?
