What Causes Ocean Tides? [Low Tide, High Tide, First Tide, Second Tide, Spring Tides, Neap Tides]

High and low tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon on the earth.

The first high tide is caused by the earth rotating into a bulge of water caused by the gravity of the moon.

The second high tide occurs on the opposite side of the earth and is caused by inertia or by the earth being squeezed

Spring tides are higher tides that are caused when both the sun and moon align and the force of gravity from both pulls on the earth.

Neap tides are moderate tides that occur 7 days after a spring tide, when the sun and moon form a right angle to each other.

Both spring tides and neap tides occur twice every lunar month.

Very good. But, you do realise it would have been far easier to explain that second inertial bulge, if you had acknowledged the actual existence of a common centre of gravity for the earth-moon system. It is the inertial motion around this point that causes that second tide. Cheers

It would have been great to include’King Tides.’ King Tides are extra high spring tides that occur at the time when the moons orbit (which is elliptical) is closest to earth and so the moon’s gravitational pull is greater and causes an even higher spring tide. King Tides occur only once or twice a year.

Nice video very straight forward . Evidence that the second high tide is also greater when the sun and moon are aligned shows that gravity primarily is what is squeezing the earth (spagetification) and causing the two bulges, not the center of moon /earth rotation

🌘🌎🌌 I see Barycenter ("located on a ring" ~1000km below the surface, d=12756km) as one center of an ellipse.
So I would expect the maximum of angular velocity / centrifugal force opposing the moon.
Full Moon Tide (🌓🌐🌤) is higher than NMT (🌏🌓🌞), where both gravity-vectors should add.
Tide goes onshore on the eastcoast, partially reflected, partially moving around the edges of the continents, from there converging between the celestial equator and Moon´s orbit plane, following the geometry of the western coasts, inertia and interfence...
