As a person who’s been yelled at in sign (both on anger and excitement) can confirm signs get bigger.
The excited friend accidentally high fived another friends face over some good news 😂

Yep! I took ASL in college and the first conversation was difficult and this girl got mad at me. It kind of discouraged me from continuing to learn and I unfortunately dropped out of the class. I am going to start learning again. Just because she wasn’t happy with me doesn’t mean I can’t learn ASL! ❤😊

a few weeks ago, I pulled up to a red light and in the car in front of me, the driver and passenger were arguing in sign. The signs just kept getting faster and larger. When the light turned green and the driver had to use her hands to steer and thus could not effectively sign, she steered with her left hand while giving the passenger the middle finger with the right hand until the next red light 😂

edit: y'all, when I tell you I missed my turn because I was so emotionally invested in these strangers' argument... I only know minimal ASL, but someone's elderly mother was involved and she was accidentally left somewhere and they were on the way to get her.

Being deaf myself I relate lol, my sign gets very dramatic when I’m yelling, reading emotions is very easy when watching deaf people. My sign also gets curt, if that makes sense. It’s hard to describe, but it’s very clear to see.

I read a story somewhere of a deaf guy and his deaf mom arguing in sign and she signed "Stop screaming" which prompted them to laugh hysterically and end the argument lol

My brother and I are both deaf. It was 1 in the morning, and he “yelled” at me to stop “yelling.”

I also love how "loud" can mean both that someones voice is raising but also that something is very eye-catching, like for example that Red is a very loud colour.

This is kinda off kinda on topic but i really like how ASL involves alot of dramatic facial expressions. I have a hard time picking up in social cues and autism so i like how you really animate the emotions, it makes them come through clearly. 🤗💞

i know when i’m signing when i’m mad my movements are a lot jerkier and don’t flow as well. but my face goes like 😠 so you can tell either way.

This is so interesting to learn about!
I’m a music major, and in conducting class we learn a lot about non verbal communication, and more space definitely equals LOUDER!

And facial expressions are everything. As a musician, this makes total sense and helps me connect a passion of mine to someone’s culture of communication :)

Have you ever seen a spanish person signing? If this happens, please, remember: WE ARE NOT MAD, we just talk loud AF with our voice, with our hands, with our face and even with the tips of the lashes😜 🧛🏻‍♀️🖤🖤🖤

Because of you, I've taken up sign language. Just completed day 103(not one day missed)

Don't know why I bit the bottom of my lip when you started cracking your knuckles

I witnessed an ASL argument once in Wal-Mart. One person was speaking and signing while the other only signed. The argument ended when the one speaking said, "Stop yelling at me. I am not blind!"

I had two deaf classmates in JROTC and one time I saw two of them arguing over some boy and it was INTENSE.. 💀

Sis, I just want you to know how much I love watching you sign with those nails, and I completely believe you'd have no problem signing some attitude.

My ASL course has said before that to people who have ASL as their first language, people who speak seem rigid and unemotional. Because for spoken languages, it's all in the tone— for ASL and other sign languages, it's all in the facial expressions.

My asl teacher says they also tend to make more noise. Just because they can’t hear they don’t realize how loud they get. Like some deaf people can still make sound with their voice even if it’s not straight talking. They could also hit stuff since their signs get really big
