The vast majority of the 2.75 million Syrian refugees in Turkey live in cities and towns. For many, exile is now counted in years. For almost all, life is difficult – with only seasonal work and little knowledge of Turkish. But in the bigger cities there is help, and advice from the Association for Solidarity with Asylum-Seekers and Migrants (ASAM), a Turkish NGO which works with UNHCR.
