Paypal Insurance Options Explained: ShipCover vs. USPS Insurance

Показать описание
A brief video covering the primary difference between ShipCover insurance and USPS insurance, both options for insuring items when you are using paypal to create labels for shipping your ebay sold items.

Basically, ShipCover insurance will be slightly cheaper than USPS insurance, but here's the catch: If you use ShipCover, and your covered parcel is damaged, ruined, or the contents lost or broken, and you then file a claim, ShipCover ONLY covers the value of the item.

USPS insuance covers the value of the item PLUS shipping.

That is the difference.

So, if you want to take a chance and use ShipCover (which may very well work out for some people who ship lightweight items where shipping charges are negligible), be warned that ShipCover will not reimburse you for the cost of shipping, whereas USPS does.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Simple concise explanation. Started selling high ticket items as of this year and this is not explained on general platforms. Fuck shipcover!

Either that, or you're doing something wrong when you file the claim. Have you ever tried filing online, and eliminating going to your local post office altogether? I file ALL of mine online, as well as UPS and FedEx claims. Forget about your local post office. They would like nothing better than to NEVER see you step foot in their lobby ever again. It's sad to say, but that's the general impression I get at every PO I've ever entered: they don't want to see you walk in the door. Do it online.

ship cover also will not cover lost package and will not cover anything they feel should not be covered

Thanks for the info, but what you said could have been done in 30 seconds. I used to do the same thing when recording though, that's why I learned to outline everything I would say or else I'd end up rambling for 5 minutes like you did. I appreciate the upload though.

usps can take a year to get a clam and the postoffice will try to locate your package and will find it 90% oe the time and the other percentage except 1% thay will deni the clame saying you must not have applyed the address in propper sice and or did not spell it correct.

The big question is, "Is it worth it over the long term"? If you ship a lot of items daily and insure some of them, do your totals for the month and also do your totals for the year on just how much it is costing you to insure packages yearly and ask yourself is it worth it. Certainly these insurance services are offering you a service just in case of a loss.

But also consider self-insurance, where you put that money everyday into your own imaginary bank, which you would otherwise pay to the insurance service. Before long you will see your imaginary "insurance" bank account start to grow, day by day and before long you would have hundreds of dollars in that "insurance bank".

So the bottom line is maybe you should start your own personal insurance service for yourself, and when you have a loss, just take that money out of your own funds accumulated over the months to pay for it.

If the package is damaged (not lost), the USPS will NOT refund you the cost of shipping and they do NOT refund the cost of the insurance.

I've had claims paid in as little as two weeks- a pretty fast pace for the government!

If i have an insurance and if the package is lost/stolen after USPS drops it in front of the door, can I file a claim?

No. Insurance only covers the item in transit, not after it's been dropped off.

Something is wrong, obviously. I file claims all the time and USPS pays practically ALL of them. They refused to pay a couple for piddly reasons, but, by and large, USPS has paid about 95% of all the claims I'd submitted.

They will make a refund if the item is proven to be lost or damaged. This is indisputable. Of course, they do not refund the price of the insurance. When you hit someone else's car in a parking lot and file a claim, the insurance company doesn't repay you all the premiums you paid in over the course of the past year. The cost of insurance is NEVER paid back. I've filed plenty of USPS insurance claims, and I make USPS reimburse for the cost of shipping, minus the cost of insurance.

I just started selling on ebay. I would like to know if there is a way where I can add the insurance price to the shipping cost in a Auction style listing. I like the Priority Mail because the insurance is included. But some items are to big and I have to use regular boxes. Does the insurance cost have to come out of my pocket ?

hi, i started using paypal, and i wanted to buy a piece for my motorcycle but i am not sure how to add the 3%. i clicked on the "send money" tab, then it gave me the option to input amount and what i was sending it for. it gave me 2 options, "paying for goods and services" and "family and friends". my question is when i click on paying for goods and services, when do i input the 3% fee. lets just say the total was $35 for the part.

ShipSaver insurance doesn't cover any internal damage to an item.  If shipping an antique clock, only the wood case is covered.  The glass and any parts inside the case are not covered.   BEWARE OF WHAT YOU ARE INSURING!

Y'all are so fucking rude. Anyway, thanks for this info, guy :)

All USPS packages are covered for $50. Anything over $50 you should consider extra insurance. If you are paying for this $25 item you are getting cheated.
