I love RRTCM. My 3 favorite tricks in the book are Meeting of the Minds, An Instinct for Cards and Mirror of the Mind. All impossible locations.
10 things you will want to learn: Control a card to the top, hold a pinky break, double undercut, retain top/bottom stock, perform a jog shuffle, a double lift, Braue add on, ATFUS, Elmsley count and learn the Frank Thompson False Cut or Jay Ose False Cut. 11 Principles you must explore: Automatic placement, Finnell free cut, Gilbreath principle, Undo influence, CATO principle, re-deal force, Balducci cut deeper, Gemini Twins concept, countback "10-20" force, clock force and key card placements. 3 advanced ideas to explore: Faro shuffle, Penelope's Principle and the memorized deck. I really love this channel. Great stuff.

I'm Brazilian and I'm not fluent in English, but I'm trying to read the royal road to card magic it's a difficult language compared to videos here on youtube that I watch in English. But I'm loving it, the effects are amazing. Here in Brazil it is difficult to find content in Portuguese although we have very talented magicians.

Omg, I have The Royal Road to Card Magic in Hard cover. Since 1974. My book even the cover is in good condition. I recommend it. It was the start of my Journey

Although Card College appears to be a technical masterpiece of instruction. I have started with Royal Road. There's something in its approach that brings out the inner child, even as an adult. I think the low cost of investment is a wonderful intro to the world of magic. The material in RR is deep and wide enough to act as a gatekeeper for those who are just passing through and those who want to make magic a discipline for life.

I have neither CC1 nor RRTCM yet but I would emphasise that RRTCM is cheaper. If you wanted to give someone a present, RRTCM would potentially be great because the recipient might be fascinated and if not, well, it was $10 - $15. CC1 is likely to help a more engaged / enthusiastic / more interested student of card magic go deeper and would be better for someone who you know is keen on cards. Based on my interest in card books for beginners, I think both of these are good starters but CC1 is almost 4 times more expensive.

I think your assessment is spot on. I started with Royal Road and it took me from zero to a 30 minute performance in a week's time. I got Card College a few months later and am still studying it. Currently in vol. 3. It's jam packed with knowledge.

J.A.C.K. (The Jolly Almanac of Card Knavery) is worth a mention too, it's a modern reworking of Royal Road that removes the archaic language used in RR and as a free PDF, it's the cheapest option if you want to stick your toe in the water.

I totally agree! I think Card College is straight up amazing, but even though it technically covers everything in Royal Road, I would start there. It will give you the basics, and you'll have some more confidence before digging in to Card College. CC is definitely the next step though, I love it, it's an amazing resource. The only problem I sometimes have with CC is that it's a bit pretentious. I dont se myself as a conductor and the cards to be my orchestra or whatever, I'm just a guy who likes to do card tricks 🤣 But that's just a matter of taste!

The royal road was difficult to read for the 1st 1 or 2 chapters for me. I kept reading and eventually understood and now I love the book. I told myself 'Chris Ramsay said its a good book and he's cool'

(I hadn't found your chanel at the time)

Started with card magic a couple of months ago. I didn't use to practice before in spite of having a keen interest in card magic and cardistry. It has been a great journey up till now, truly enjoyed RRTCM, haven't finished it yet as the advanced sleights such as palm and the pass are going to need time to master! I started with the CC1 a week ago, and I really loved the style of the explanations and the depths he goes into explaining with moves as simple as an overhand shuffle.

I am glad that I am following a path I would benefit greatly from! Your video was an affirmation! Thank you!

The Royal Road combined with Paul Wilson’s Royal Road DVD is the way to go.

Love Card College! When Quarantine first hit, I reread card College, and “relearned” all of the basics! Definitely helped to make some subtle changes to what I already do!

What a great way to learn card magic! Having a mentor is the best way and the easiest way to get one is join theIBM magic club or the S.A.M. These clubs are invaluable for learning everything to do with magic.

I really like the Annotated RRTCM by Mark Lewis.

How much card magic do you use in your mentalism act? And what's your take on using cards in mentalism in general? I'd love a video on these.

Also, any plans about writing a magic/mentalism book yourself?

The toughest hurdle is if you hold the deck in the hand opposite of how it's written. You have to play around a lot spatially

Both are very interesting books, what really separate them is the language used and the way the subject of card magic is exposed, being the CC a more detailed set of books. For a beginner I recommend the CC 1 and not the RRTCM only because the language could decrease the "enthusiasm" of the student! But at some point of their path in card they should definitely read the Royal road!

Hi, I am new to the magic space and I don't think I will ever perform professionally. I am just learning it out of curiosity and at best to perform it for friends and family. I am not deft with cards and don't know how to play any of the card games either. But I would love to learn a few card tricks as they seem to be the most versatile.

I saw some reviews of Card College Light series. Can I replace the "Royal Road to Card Magic" and "Card College Vol 1-5" with the Card College Light series in my learning journey?

I never got the card college series cause I started reading books after I have started magic for quite a while and when I start reading I brought a lot of card magic books but never the college series and recently I start having online lessons with I think one of the best sleight of hand artist nowadays, do you still recommend me getting the college series?
