ABOUT TIK 📝

History isn’t as boring as some people think, and my goal is to get people talking about it. I also want to dispel the myths and distortions that ruin our perception of the past by asking a simple question - “But is this really the case?”. I have a 2:1 Degree in History and a passion for early 20th Century conflicts (mainly WW2). I’m therefore approaching this like I would an academic essay. Lots of sources, quotes, references and so on. Only the truth will do.

This video is discussing events or concepts that are academic, educational and historical in nature. This video is for informational purposes and was created so we may better understand the past and learn from the mistakes others have made.

Hey everyone, I know it may not seem like it in the video, but I am, in fact, still ill. Never before have I been so tempted not to publish on a Monday. I thought I was getting better, but it got worse. I was only able to get this video done by fighting through the headaches. And because the parts I appeared on camera were short, I was able to clear my throat between them to make it appear like I wasn’t as ill as I actually was.

So I apologize that the video is so short, and not on “tanks”. And I also apologize for not having the list of Patreons and SubscribeStars in the video, but it’s too short to list it. I deliberately chose an easy question which I had already done the research for a while ago so that it was quick and easy to produce (“tanks” type content isn’t always easy to produce). Thank you Santtu Mäenpää for asking an easy question!

I’m still aiming to get Stalingrad out next week, but the headaches are bad. So if it’s not out on time, or there’s no video next week, you’ll know why.

Note: I know Santtu Mäenpää asked a slighty different question to the title of the video, but I thought I'd answer his question and this one too, since Hitler's opportunity to restore the monarchy reveals his views on the German monarchy.

One interesting anecdote that Hitler once told was that when he was a young man in Vienna, he briefly had a job of sweeping the snow off the pavement outside a very fancy restaurant that the royal family and other aristocrats would go to. He said that they never even glanced at him and the other workers, as if they didn't even exist. He said that this experience made him despise aristocracy in general.

He hated the Kaiser and the Kaiser hated Hitler. Also, the ones who turned on Hitler during the war was most often aristocrats (Stauffenberg and co)

I long realised that Hitler would not want the return of the Kaiser. Last thing he needed was a rival.

It looks like pretty much everyone hated Wilhelm II, yet in spite of his sometimes rash behavior, I cannot help but feel that he has been done dirty. Both the Entente and the German revolutionaries desperately needed someone to blame for the catastrophe of the Great war, and boy, did they have their way...

Several years ago I came across an article in the magazine “after the battle” I think. It was about the Kaiser’s time at Doorn, especially when the Germans occupied The Netherlands and sent a Wehrmacht detachment to “protect” the Kaiser.
Apparently the Nazi became irritated with the fact that the soldiers were really taken by the old man.
They were replaced by a waffen ss unit, who were given strict instruction not to interact with the Kaiser.
Hitler did make sure he sent the largest funeral wreath upon his passing, emblazen with a giant set of siegruins.
Although the family had requested no Nazi pomp and circumstance

Willhelm 2 lived just long enough to see France conquered. I bet he felt complete in life after that.

Germany's history is endlessly fascinating, just like Britain's.

3:15 "Capitalism was to be destroyed, today it marches stronger than ever." Well there goes the theory that Hitler was a capitalist.

He loved monarchy. Just see how proud he looks on his portrait when you go down "Oppose Hitler" national focus before taking the monarchist tree.

Great to hear your input on this topic. Since you mentioned the Kaiser, are you considering making videos about the First World War? Your video on the reason for Germany's defeat in WW2 was very well made, but I am also interested in what you would consider to be the main reason for WW1's outcome.

"Why didn't Hitler restore Kaiser Willhelm II to the Throne? Easy, as Gandalf explained of Hitler in _The Lord of the Rings_ "There can only be one Lord of the Rings. Only one who can bend them to his will and he does NOT share power!"

My interpretation regarding Hitler and the German monarchy: Hitler was tactically flexible during his rise to power, therefore, if he felt that reinstalling the German monarchy was to his advantage, then he would have done so. However, by the time Hitler became the chancellor, he did not need to install a figurehead in the form of the German monarchy. In fact, he gained the chancellorship by winning the 1933 election, meaning he could claim his legitimacy under the narrative of "the people's will", coupled with his list of "grievances" of the way Germany was treated after 1918. If, instead, had he taken the chancellorship by a bloody coup, then he would most likely to have had to install a figurehead until he could whitewash his hands and consolidate his power. However, even under this scenario, Hitler might not have necessarily brought back Wilhelm II. Keeping someone like the aging Hindenburg as the head of the state would have been more than enough, as have been done historically. Furthermore, unlike Wilhelm II, Hindenburg was viewed as a "war hero" by most Germans at that time, thus the latter was a better candidate.)

Hitler also had the example of Mussolini to draw upon. He commented on how much trouble Musso had had from the Italian king. He wasn't going to put up with anyone being even notionally more powerful than him, rather stating in various ways at various times that he was the sole leader of Germany and only he knew how to guide it and what his intentions were. Hitler was such a control freak that he never tolerated the slightest challenge to his power from within Germany, those who did ended up dead.

His own family didn't like Wilhelm II. Even his grandmother, Queen Victoria, thought he was an odd boy.
He was literally Billy No Mates.

Because dumb political spectrums list both "monarchism" and "fascism" as "right-wing", people assume that there's some kind of affinity between them. In reality, there isn't. The handful of times fascists and monarchists have worked together are nearly always out of a mutual fear of a looming Communist threat, rather than being something they do willingly. Fascism is a revolutionary movement, the child (now disowned child) of the Enlightenment, just like Socialism and Liberalism. Notice how all three appeal to "the will of the people" as the source of their legitimacy and power, even if they don't mean the exact same thing by that phrase. All three believe in popular sovereignty, not in Divine Right or any of the other monarchial justifications of rule. They aren't friends, at best they are strange bedfellows who team up against even greater mutual threats.

I like how TIKs Hitler quote voice is just a slightly more serious version of his normal voice.
