My dear late wife and I had a two-week holiday staying at the Hotel Rufolo in Ravello. We always considered it to be our favourite Italian holiday. Waking up every morning to the view of the Villa Rufolo gardens and Capo d'Orso was just something else. Maggie always loved gardens and gardening, so she was truly in her element exploring the gardens of the Villa Rufolo and the Villa Cimbrone. I have had Italian holidays since she became unable to fly and have visited some amazing places, but still that holiday in 1999 will always remain my favourite.

We had 5 nights in Ravello recently, staying at the Bed & Breakfast Gala Residence Villa Giovanna - great place. We found trying to find decent places to eat in the evening a bit disappointing. As you say, most tourists are day trippers, and the piazza restaurants and cafes generally start shut down from about 6pm.
