think about it - if a friend or family member of a furry tried on their fursuit - would they be considered a furry? nope. anthropomorphic media is considered "furry" but it's really up to the individual if they want to participate in the fandom and actively categorize themselves as in that fandom. a lot of people get mad at this and say "no, once you like anthropomorphic media that's it, you're a furry!!" but it's a bit more nuanced than that. this is generally the sentiment that i have found most people agreeing with - but other people still have their opinions too.

This video really speaks to me, because I don't have a sona, I don't have a fursuit, and I've never once gone anywhere near a convention, but because I've been friends with multiple furries in the past and defend the community when my current friends who are haters start talkin' smack, they think that I must CLEARLY be one too. I mean yeah, sure, I've had quite a few fictional crushes that are considered "furry" characters, but other than that plus what I've previously mentioned, there's nothing "furry" about me. I appreciate you making this video Zee. Glad I found someone who understands that just because someone supports/defends a community doesn't mean they have to be part of it.

I have anthro sonas and feral sonas/OCs (Undertale and warriors fan for reference) and am a furry in all but name, and that’s okay! If an artist (the typical meaning like sketches n stuff) doesn’t have to be a furry then a suiter(?) doesn’t have to be one either. It’s a hobby, not a permanent trait.

I enjoy drawing anthropomorphic animal characters and even consider getting or making a fursuit, but I don't call myself a furry because I just don't have the patience to deal with the people who have a problem with the community and decide they just HAVE to let me know how weird they think it is. I don't care about their opinions enough and I just don't want that energy around me, so the best preventative measure for me is to not use the term.
