I have tried something like this except we used Korean bbq flavours, with a katsu sauce and sesame seed crust and I can confirm it’s Devine.

A someone who always eats various types of tofu and has all my life, I've never seen it done like this before and appreciate the originality.

When tofu is prepared and cooked right its incredible

I would highly suggest it is marinated overnight before you attempt the recipe, to get the flavours on the inside and not just outside. Pat, score, and then marinate in the soy sauce and paprika overnight. Then continue the recipe from there.

I think people who need to be convinced of tofu’s capabilities are probably the kind that need to be told to press the tofu first

In Indo especially in java, we like to cook tofu until brownish like this and we called it "Baceman". The ingridients would be spices (garlic, shallot, salt, coriander), bay leaves, sweet soy sauce, java sugar, tamarind water, galangal, coconut water, and last but not least the tofu. Not only tofu, we usually add tempe, gembus, and kethak😍

For vegan menu, I think you should know abt indonesian dishes. I've been vegan for few years and did my research on indonesian dish. Much of them are actually vegan friendly. Like this one, it's called bacem tofu in indonesia. Sometimes they go with tofu, boiled eggs and tempeh too. And also, they have many types of tempeh. Not just the one we knew. There are tempeh with red beans, the sponge tempeh, and many more. There are so many options for us to play with

Looks way better than my standard tofu baked with a spoon of mustard on top.

Ouch! I felt that! Done it too many times myself. I hope that didn't sting too much. I leave oven gloves right next to hot oven ware to remind me not to pick it up without them. Another nice recipe, thanks.

You are such a fantastic person. At the time when you burn your hands, 90% of people would go "beep, beep, .... beep" and you go SO concentrated and just fine. You are SO amazing.

So original I can't wait to make this. I'm adding pineapple juice instead of water for the glaze. Maybe cherry juice for that baked ham flavor profile.
YOU are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G to have CREATED THIS. 👍 Wunderbar! 😘

Great recipe! I also use this kind of recipe on tempe (soy cakes) and marinate them overnight before cooking. I also add some more seasoning like brown sugar, candlenut, bay leaves, tamarind, etc. In Indonesia we call this method 'bacem' or marinated, same recipe can be used for tofu, tempe, eggs, whatever you wanna try (maybe).

I can suggest an upscale to this idea. Fill the crevices with grilled aubergine and grilled shitake or Portobello or Shimeji Mushrooms and add orange juice and pineapple juice to the glaze.

Looks yummy. I have been a vegetarian over a decade and sometimes you want a main dish and side dishes like the meat eaters have, but I am tired of plant based "meat." I am going to try this this week.
