I discovered JBP 3 years ago
Since then I’ve lost over 100lbs,
Mentally & emotionally I am in a stable and increasingly secure place,
No longer suicidal,
I am writing and am going to start school this year to be a special education teacher,
I am currently going through a divorce where for 18 years I suffered every type of abuse you can name and I have my moments where things get unbearable but bc of JP I am getting through it in a very healthy way.
I don’t know if you see this comment but that’s a small list of so much I am grateful to you for JP. I had no one in life to help me in positive ways and I took on those lectures and videos hours on hours and it’s done so much in my life I have your books and can’t wait to get the new one 👍🏼

We watch our own failures from a front row seat. That quote really hit hard.

1. Every ideal/goal is a judge - can be crushing
2. Stop comparing yourself to others
3. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday - compounds
4. Who would you like to be? What's stopping you from becoming that?
5. Instead of punishing yourself from as a consequence of perceived distance you reward yourself for incremental movement forward

"You can have whatever ideal you want as long as you're willing to reduce your movement forward to achievable increments." Dang that is brilliant.

Much of my young life, as an alcoholic and drug user, (1964-1984), born in 1948, was all about comparing my insides to everybody else's outsides, that is to say I always thought everybody else had it together but not me, and so I wanted their life.
Look at that guy hes got the women, the car, the money, the style, yada yada yada...
Now being over 30 years clean and sober I must say that for many many years I have never come across anybodies life that I want... This is major progress for me...

Jordan articulates what has otherwise always felt like mere instinct or ‘gut’ feelings and opinions. Great question btw.

I just reminisced on how great it was to have Jordan around a couple of years ago and just realized how great it is for him to be back.

It brings to mind the Three Great Delusions:
I am better.
I am worse.
I am the same.

"I think that's one of the challenges we have in the modern era because social media shows us the highlight reel of everybody else's life, but we get to watch our own failings from a front row seat. We realize how far away from our own potential we are, but nobody else actually knows that. You are only ever competing against yourself. "

Of all life's problems, this is the one that crushes my soul. I was given so many gifts, told I have those gifts over and over, and wasted my entire life up to late middle age, ultimately on addiction and the total annulment of life's riches. Those gifts were as nothing compared to the negative core beliefs that were instilled within me. To begin from scratch with a broken body and mind, heavy with regret, is not an easy thing to do, no matter how many tools and insight there are available.

I used to struggle with depression. But as I've got older I try to see the 'glass as half full'. Cliche I know, but I've become a firm believer that something is better than nothing and even the worst experience can have positives and still be a 'ride.'
You only grieve because you had something special.

The trick is to pick a goal that is realistic, durable, andachieveable. That way you can derive a lot of gratification from the process of getting there!
