This is the second update video in my construction process. I talk about how I’ve contracted the construction crew, total planned cost, and how I’ve chosen to go about getting the best prices, and what help I’ve been receiving. Woven throughout this video are my personal takes (and opinions) on various aspects of the construction process and how that relates to me and the present state of my retirement. This video is an ongoing g blend of my personal asides on things and the construction process with my fiancé, Fawn.

Is $2,000 per month a good pension? Where are the best places in Thailand? What Healthcare does Thailand have? Does Medicare work overseas? How do I open a bank account in Thailand? Can I work in Thailand? How safe is Thailand? Can you retire in Thailand with 1 million dollars? Do Thai women really like older foreign men? What is it like dating in Thailand?

I got sick in the Philippines and have been recovering in Thailand for the past 3 weeks. It's amazing how much strength and weight you can lose in 3 weeks. I was starting back in weight training again, but I was shocked at the loss.

I just build a house myself together with my wife 10 minutes away from Phibun Mangsahan (Ubon Ratchathani) in 2 months. Nothing fancy, just a wooden knockdown house we had delivered and put it 3 meter high like they all do in Thailand and now we have a 100% traditional wooden Thai house and i love it. We did not wanted to bother with Thai construction because im a contractor myself in Belgium and i prefer to do everything myself, especially in Thailand 😅
When your house is finished you will understand why...

I follow you now a couple years and it's nice to see you finally will having your own house and place to chill.
You will enjoy the sunrise view and sunset from your land, it looks perfect 👌

Really good video Rob. I get a lot of enjoyment from you telling your daily Thai routines and you living in the moment and letting go of what is not important.

Great update. Always fascinating to see how different countries approach building. Keep them coming. One day I may be doing the same. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺

One of my favourite TV series in England is ‘Grand Designs’ so I’m enjoying following the progress with your house. I remember the drawings you did by hand… and now it’s becoming real. So exciting and deeply satisfying for you.

I'm eager to see the final result. Good to see all things going well.

Good luck with the build. I did it once (kind of a combo between a "medium size falang McMansion" and Thai modern) and never again. Spent a whole year of my life having to play zookeeper.😂 Happy with the final product but it's definitely a once in a lifetime deal for me. Next one, if ever, will be modular. As for finding out who your village supporters and "enemies" are, luckily didn't have MUCH of that as I am fortunate enough to have 12 yrs of in country training in how to read fake and real smiles😊

Very cool. We are halfway through our off grid cabin build on our Isan farm here. A nice place to go chill when we are working on the farm. So much cheaper to build structures here than back in USA.

Hi Rob, great advice on the proper foundation. Don’t you have an engineering background? It shows, good call.

Also, I think it very prudent to not lay down large cash payments for future work to be completed.
Pay as you go with the understanding that work crews can and will be changed if necessary.
And of course, make sure all are fairly compensated for the work they have completed.
