Glazing Possibilities- 28 Different Approaches to Glazing Pottery! PART 1!

This video is preparing my Ceramics students to glaze their pieces at the end of the semester.

In this video, I glaze 28 wheel thrown bowls. We use stoneware glazes (cone 5 and 6 midfire) on our Standard 153 stoneware, a nice midrange firing stoneware. I used Coyote brand cone 6 glazes and underglazes in the carved design grooves on a few bowls to keep the stoneware glazes separate when they fire. I now use Standard 125 which is a lovely cone 6 stoneware that looks the same as the 153~

For many of the great tools I used in the video check out this link to a live Googledoc I continually update with lots of my favorite tools on Amazon using my associate links! (also some non-amazon suggestions on here!)

I started my Youtube channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students!

Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!

The world needs more teachers like you Karan. I wish I could learn under you. Thank you for making these elaborate videos for us who can't be a part of your classes. ❤️

Art teacher here looking for a useful video to refresh my glaze knowledge, as it's been a few years since I was in a school with a working kiln. All I can say is, wow. Absolute goldmine of a video. Don't think they covered half of this in my undergrad ceramics course. Everything about this video and your studio is inspirational as an Art Educator. Kudos.

I've been doing pottery for about 6 months now and I've already learned more in this one video than all of the other resources I've studied. Thank you for making this!

This studio is amazing. Can see a lot of love and hard work was at play to build it. Faith in humanity restored.

The possibility, the tools, the extremely well organized workshop and the variety of glazes you have, all is so great. Thanks so much for the tutorial!

I have had ceramics classes at local art centers and at the college level. None of my teachers was as good as you. I hope your students realize what a great and competent teacher you are!

I wish I'm a kid and going to your school. You're such a great teacher and that looks like a first rate studio. Thanks for sharing this video. 💗💗💗
I can imagine how your students have benefited from the amount of skill and creative expression that they got to learn and experience.
I also loved the practical tips like... how do you problem solved and think 3 dimensionally. Or how do you work efficiently and keep your studio clean. There's just so much fun and info to unpack.

Very very helpful! Out of all the tutorials i’ve watched and people i’ve asked today in studio, this has been THE MOST helpful for me! I’m under the impression that you are happy doing what you’re doing, and that you’re a wonderful teacher. Thank you so much, you’re incredibly kind to post this publicly. With love from Massachussets ❤️

This was so helpful! Your class has more stuff than my studio where I pay like $200 for 6 week classes. So many useful techniques!

Wow I love all these ideas for glazing. I'm really excited to see the shino over black combo. I'm getting ideas for when I'm able to get back in the studio.

We are all jealous we did not have you as an art teacher in HS! Paper mache was as exciting as it got. Thank you and thanks to Mason High for sharing this - it is EXACTLY what I needed. The pdf is absolutely wonderful. I opened a second browser and watched them side by side. I too was amazed at your organization. I had Uni of Cincinnati art teachers when I first started (now in Fl) and they were not nearly as organized or as helpful. You were so good during COVID too. I didn't have a wheel /kiln back then but I watched faithfully and so glad I did. Thank you Thank you Thank you.
