Alex Hirsch on How Gravity Falls Got its Name

Just like the show, Alex came up with it when he was sleep deprived and tired of something. You gotta love it.

This is a clip from the GF Box Set Documentary, One Crazy Summer: A Look Back at Gravity Falls.

I do not own the video. All right go to Shout Factory, Disney and any other creators.

"How about some gnomes!?There's also gnomes!" - I don't know why, but after seeing the actual show and then reading this just makes me laugh so much

Can't believe I'm just now realizing that the magic 8 ball in the intro was a reference to this.

By the way, that friend he mentions, Adrian Molina, later went on to co-direct the oscar winning Pixar movie *Coco*

I remember the first episode i ever watched Was the bottomless pit one, where they are all falling and telling different stories and i just thought every episode would be like that, with different Segments because the name checks out

So wait, had they not played that game, GF may not had existed? Ok sure I know part of the origin is that Alex had spend some childhood in those wacky attractions in the US but still??

This was awesome. I love the story and every time i see one of these clips the more and more I think it was Alex Hirsch’s destiny to write this show.

I was scrolling through Disney + last summer and found this legend of a show

I'm glad it was titled Gravity Falls, the title itself and the location name all played into the weirdness that the show and town had.

Gravity Falls is just a weird and unnatural name that doesn't make sense much like the ongoings in the town.

I expected Alex Hirsch to say he got the name from “Twin Peaks”, a show that’s kind of like an IRL version of Gravity Falls

Gravity doesn’t fall, it makes things fall. But in the weirdness of Gravity Falls Oregon, gravity is a permanently falling force that just pushes everything down with it. Thus, gravity falls

While I believe the Gravity Falls we have is just a hair away from perfection, I also wish I could just peek into an alternate reality were we get these early versions of Gravity Falls seen to fruition.

I've been to a Gravity Falls house, or mystery spot. I think there's one in Knott's Berry farm. It was the standard magnetic hills type warped perspective thing, and I loved it. Km a sucker for cheap roadside Americana and sideshow oddities. It's why one of my favorite stories in "The October Country" is "The Jar." And why I was and am so entranced by Gravity Falls. And Earthbound, where the plot is almost literally saving the world with the power of cheap tourist traps given mystical powers.

Wow, this is the coolest way to come up with something! And so much has happened with it!

I thought he was going to say that it was a play on words. How a place can have Falls in the name similar to Niagara and in the episode where Fiddleford was pulled back, he warned Stanford "when gravity falls..."

"A catch all junk drawer for every dumb idea I've had." Take the word dumb out and that's a really good way to describe the show.

I’ve ALWAYS wondered where this name came from!

I remember there was a theory going on regards of owl showing up on gravity falls episodes if you look at the environment carefully?
Like...do you guys remember that?
It was theorized as "there might me some secret group who worship owls" but it was never bring up ever again after some episodes later.
