Are ALL Sins Really Worth The Same?

It's a wide spread idea that all sins are worth the exact same, but is that what the Bible says?

All sins make a person deserving of God's punishment in hell, but that doesn't mean they are all worth the same.

All sin is equally condemning, but not all sin is the same, well said🧡

All sin is equal to the point
where it separates us from God
but you are right about the Bible
how it said
some sins are worse than others

We all get judged according to our behaviour. Jesus saves our soul, but we still get judged.

The wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

A lot of people think all sins are the same because all sins condemn us to hell. But that doesn't mean they are the same. The important thing to understand is that God's standard is absolute perfection in word, thought and deed. One sin condemns us, and not just wrong things we do but failing to do good. The greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength (and that second is like it, to love your neighbour as yourself). This is impossible for us sinners to do. We fall short every day. Multiple times a day.

That's why the cross is so important. Jesus died so we can be forgiven and redeemed and justified and sanctified and saved and regenerated and recreated and the list goes on. He died to make us perfect. And He will. For those who have received Him (believed on His name).

I think people often confuse the idea that all sins are detestable to a holy God with it meaning that all sins are equal level with one another, like lying is equal to murder, and of course they're not. I think even some Christians think this way, and I imagine this type of idea is sometimes spread even directly from Christians who may not know exactly what they're talking about.

All sins are detestable to God, like a sin is a sin is a sin, BUT not all sins are judged to the same degree. All sins require judgement, but not all sins are judged equally. Just as some crimes are misdemeanors and some are felonies (at least in the US), each sin is judged based on various factors.

God probably has a variety of ways of weighing the judgement for each sin. I don't know for sure, but I imagine something like level of harm, how far that harm spreads to others, one's intent to sin or ignorance while committing the sin, etc. But we don't know for sure.

What we can be sure of though is that a just and holy God is one who weighs and considers all information related to the crime, and makes the best, righteous and holy judgement He can based on all factors, seen and unseen.

I agree with these comments. Sin is all "equally bad" in that, regardless of the sin, it is punishable with hell, but it is true that not all sins are the same in magnitude. In view of the holiness of God, the difference in the weight of every sin could be considered "irrelevant" and yet distinguished and noticeable.

I highly recommend reading early church father writings because they are relevant and they are the people who carried on the traditions we are told to “hold fast to” in 2 Thessalonians

If you trust in Jesus Christ that he died on the cross and paid for your sins so you wouldnt have to and God rose him from the dead to raise you up in the last day through Jesus you will be saved

James 2:10 if you brake the law in one point you are guilty of the whole.
Romans 5:18 -by one the world was condemned and by One the world was offered redemption.
Hebrews 10:6 our vain atonements don't please God
Mathew 12:31 blasphemy of the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven.

All sin is equal and worthy of hellfire. Only through Christ is there atonement. Who are we to start tiering sin as though one thing may be worse than another, the Bible often provides lists of various sins with mocking, adultry, and even offing people all being placed in the same list and finishing the list by saying " none will enter the kingdom". Our focus is the kingdom and anything that seperates us from it is worthy of concern. Consider Christ with the woman caught in adultry, He said to the accusers let he who is without sin cast the first stone, putting thier sins equal to the one she had just been caught in. Then just as He did not condemn them but let them leave, He let her leave saying go and sin no more.

Yes there is a sin directly unto death, it is the complete rejection of Christ. Think of all who were immediately taken out for thier sin in scripture. Annanias and Saphira, those who touched the Ark, Lot's wife. People who directly defied God, if you know God and hear His commandments and still blatantly reject Him, there is no hope for you, you have denied the only hand that offers salvation. So to call it worse is somewhat a mischaracterization, it is simply the sin of telling God " I don't need you or want you" to which God says "okay" and lets you go to the place where you won't be in His presence for eternity.

People believe this because the results are the same no matter what the sin is.

This is something I used to actually say. "All sins are the same" or "all sins are equal".

I no longer say that. But I think that, when I did, my confusion lied in that all sin, no matter the severity, sends you to hell if you haven't received Jesus and His sacrifice.

I also abandoned this view when I realized that, just as there are degrees of rewards in heaven (based on your works. Not for salvation. But for rewards) there are also degrees of punishment. Jesus even said that He judges teachers in the church with greater strictness and has even created a place of greatest torment for them. This is because false teachers have a role in millioms of people going to hell. All of their blood is on their hands.

When I read about that, my view on this changed radically

All sin separates God may be part of the confusion here. Isaiah 1:18 (KJV) Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
