My board game review of Restoration Games’ modernized version of the 1974 game called Tempo then Daytona 500 in the 1990s. Auction off cars then race them for better positions for money. You’ll also be betting on which car will win, and you can bet on opponents as well.

I bought a copy of this game at Target recently. The driver card tiles are replaced by a regular card. Not a big deal, but I like the bigger driver tiles.

Formula D will never leave my shelf for its variety of tracks, options in pushing your car, ease of teaching... but Downforce looks like a more filler racing game experience that would fit better in more casual situations. Why choose? Keep both!

Thanks for the review. Lots of useful information. Not sure I'll pick this up though. Racing games for me go back to Speed Circuit then published by Avalon Hill. Which means I had to get the updated version that came out last March. So, for me, Championship Formulas Racing (aka CFR) is the standard for a car racing game. Coming from that direction, then, Downforce seems too light weight even though they are different types of car racing games. Still, this looks like one that many will like.

Whoa! It blows Formula D away? What aspects of this one did you enjoy better? The length of gameplay? Cards instead of dice?

This game mechanically seems great, but the art and graphic design is really offensive to me! It looks like the board game version of one of those low budget flash video games.
