I think Sally Rooney wanted to expand her scope by writing male characters but she didn't know how to do it, she didn't know how to connect with the conflict of men, Instead, he stayed on the surface and did not go into more depth about what he is best at, the female characters, She tried to maintain a senseless moral impartiality, but she doesn't know how to write in that way, contemplating and showing the psyche of each character, like Milan Kundera for example in The unbearable lightness of being

Just finished reading this book for my book club and SO MANY TIMES wished I could have abandoned it. I looked up the book to see how others were fairing and many said it gets better and is worth the read. Well now, after reading it, I can tell you that you missed nothing. While the character conflicts found some resolution the situations they were in that exacerbated those conflicts did not get the same treatment. In fact I felt Rooney didn’t know how to resolve it and just decided not to. I now know Sally Rooney is not for me.

the theme of this book is the 'unreliable narrator'. I think if you don't get this, the book will be very confusing and seem a bit disjointed and pointless

All sally rooney books have this style of writing, you just need to get used to it and keep reading and then it works really well

YeS, i read the first couple of chapters in my car, and then had to break out the audiobook to decide if it.made any sense, or if english was changing that Much, just disintegrating. Dear lord, my high school composition teacher would eat Sally alive, lol, , , Then i got ot moved on, talk about first world problems, Ireland seems like the most country in the world with little conflict. As a partially irish on the spectrum chess genius, with brother and father problems this should have hit me hard, but i identified only a little of it. I foudn the romance unrealistic and simplistic. I dont mind the metaphores and philosophical thoughts though that was the best part, by Far, cause everything elae was pretty bad, im gonna give her a B just fpr that and being a marxist, I Approve of her thinking entirely, but this will probably be rhe last of her books i read.

Well I've got a book for you that delves into character focus-in terms of the story-but it does a better job, it's more than a 100 chapters long, but it won't feel like it.
I present to you, Life of Pi🫢👻
Think you can read atleast read the first 5 chapters 😭?
