In today's hardware/software world...it appears the customer is used as a 2nd layer beta tester, and fixes are applied after complaints arise on forums and videos. If companies stopped sending beta models to their favorite "yes men" for testing, ..things might be different. Great video as always Mike.

Definitely, i remember a facebook post a few months back from a Garrett tester who claimed the vortex beat the manticore on depth and i.d etc which i thought was suspect at that time, Garrett need to update this machine A.S.A.P, is this the reason their chosen youtubers werent allowed show the screen or let us hear the audio ?? Hopefully they get this sorted for those who pre ordered this thing, they could also do with changing those awful tones but thats just my humble opinion, cheers for the vid .

I'm actually embarrassed for Garrett. They plugged and hyped the Vortex for months but looks like they missed the field testing out. It's actually a very poor sub standard offering, especially when you compare it to the Nokta Score range. I'd be firing the whole of the R&D and product development team if I was Vaughn Garrett. Charles would be turning in his grave with this crock of shit.

Makes me question the testing over there at Garrett before their machines are released. Something like what you demonstrated should have been a pretty easy catch with the protocol they must have in testing their units for precision or repeatability. I’m sorta lost with what I’ve been seeing from this machine as to why some of this hasn’t been caught and corrected before its release.

Good comparison video, thanks for putting it together. Air tests tell part of the story, which tells the user what numbers they _should_ see. I don't have a Vortex, but I do have a Legend and a Triple Score. I found on both Noktas that on some deeper targets, the VDI numbers can vary, sometimes widely, only to give a more accurate and steady reading as the soil is dug away. I find this more prevalent at salt water beaches, both wet and dry, (and not without some black sand mixed in), but also in parks as well.

I would like to see a comparison between the Legend and the Vortex in unmasking, with nails or in iron infested areas.

The vdi scale on any detector is the very first thing that should be caught if it’s not operating correctly simply because its the first thing your eyes see when you scan a target. Even the least experienced testers should have caught that on the first day.

The problem with garret is that if anyone gives any negative feedback then they like to claim that it is user error because their chosen fanboy testers refuse to give honest feedback because they will lose the privilege of receiving free equipment.

In my opinion, the angle of the plug for the coil cable should be angled downwards - like the Equinox. And in the way it is now - it looks like a weak point and could lead to damage to the cable. What do you think?

A 20 point drop is a lot on a machine that only has three and 5 tone options. On 5 tone 20 points will drop you down to the next lower tone. So if you're digging everything not a problem. If you're sniping Your silver dropped from the highest tone to the second highest tone where more non-silver targets will probably also live. I wonder what the effect would be on rusty bottle caps or pull tabs. Will the frequency shift also lower them? Or will they go up? Stay the same?
