I have 3/10 -mile asphalt grindings/milling driveway W/large circle drive. I'm in CO at 6, 500ft elevation. Warm summers cold winter with plowing. The millings have been a pleasure to live with for over 15 years. My only issue is the steep part of the drive gets rutted after a heavy T-storm. Rutted down to the CDOT road base underneath. Last year I tried a water-based sealer (the H/D 5gal bucket) and filled the ruts, then new, good, recycled asphalt millings. Didn't last - this year after T-storms ruts returned, in same spots. Asphalt Fusion is right - Rejuvenator MUST be used under (in the ruts/cracks & on top to seal). I found such a product and its crazy expensive but it's my ranch and I want it done right. I won't say the brand as it will likely get removed - Google "Asphalt Rejuvenator" - look for the most expensive one. Also, going to rent a compactor. I really hate re-doing projects - in the heat.

Well...this helped me decide...surprised you don't have more views and subscribers. Yeah...I will use the real stuff not the latex...my driveway is due south. So total sun in summer. Good luck to you . I hit the subscribe button.

The next time I'm sealing a sponge, I'll certainly know what to use.

Great, I subscribed, let me know how will you deal with the air voids decreasing after the use of rejuvenation, which will penetrate and fill out the voids in mineral aggregates, any thoughts of bitumen bleeding/ flushing in the summer? what is your opinion?

I am in North Texas area, Denison TX, Lake Texoma. What kind of sealer do you use? The contractor I have a bid on uses Recycled Asphalt Rejuvenator from Distributor Asphalt Kingdom. Do you know if this is recommended. It does state that it needs to mix with water??

The contractor states it will help from washing out and loose and helps lock down. It will be black when sprayed on but over time it will turn to a brownish color. Last a few years.

Thanks so much! I appreciate you sharing!

Very interesting, sponge thing was great. What sealers are classified as penetrating sealers? Are there special additives? I don't use asphalt emulsion, I use a coal tar concentrate called tarconite. Is there a specific brand you use of the penetrating sealer? Thanks for the video.

Waterbase Surface sealer will outlast penetrating oilbase sealer any day.. Homedepot and any small hardware store that sells waterbase surface sealer will build up over the years and pill and chip its No good. But a commercial grade Waterbase sealer will not do so if apply correctly. Oilbase penetration sealer is jus like wax for a car Yes it will bead off any rain ect but also like armor all for ur wheels its nice and shiny when its done but fades off within 6month and is ALSO VERY TACKY AND TRACKS IN HOMES EASY Especially on a hot day. and the product alone is very thin and thats with using a commerical grade product its useless in my eyes. but this is just my opinion. Oilbase sealer is hard to find in a lot of states i know because they dont sell enough of it anymore so the amount to purchase is very lil, keep in mined all that penetrating sealer u keep applying ever couple years will cause ur asphalt to soften worser in worser jus like your showing in the video..best example i could give its like IF YOU KEEP DIPPING UR COOKING IN MILK TO MUCH ITS JUST GOING TO BREAK AND FALL TO APART TO THE BOTTOM OF GLASS..but in first thought to a person looking on youtube for answer it makes sents!! But in reality it makes asphalt weaker. 99% of asphalts wear in tear comes from the top service any further damage or wear underneath is very unlikey inless ur base wasnt apply correctly or ur asphalt to thin... iv been a professional contractor for along time and iv tryed it all but for a driveway or parkinglot waterbase from a commerical plant is the way to go. Its thicker stronger and DOES NOT FADE OFF AS FAST AS OILBASE Penetrating sealer does. it has no tack to it what so ever, and every professional contractor i know useing waterbase product. it also seals some smaller cracks and its protects asphalt way longer than oil base Penetrating sealer does, and stays jus like the day you apply it for more then couple years before it starts looseing its coloration.. this comment wasnt to offend you or prove you wrong because all in all they both work and serve a purpose. Its just iv talked to more unhappy customers who had oilbase penetrating selaer put on serveral times by a small company and they called me or other contractors I know come out and redue it with a waterbase sealer.. all them gas station and Big frame Chaz businesses you see they were all done with a water-based sealer I have never driven or drove by a parking lot that has been done with a penetrating or base sealer but certain people like certain things I also know a few people just like the shine of the oil base and don’t mind seal coating it every year or two but all n all i hope it helps anyone because im A witness any professional who has done both with my own eyes

Water based is no good. Oil based penetrating rejuvenating sealer is definitely the only way to go

Thank you. It's the difference between water based (surface) and coal based rejuvenater (what we think of as tar).
How do I get the coal based rejuvenater here in Illinois and apply it ? Problem being I'm pretty sure there are laws against the rejuvenater.
This is why I knock on doors for Republicans for free but that's another story. Anyway, just wondering if there's a way around the laws or if they even apply to private residents.

If you made a mistake and you did the water based, can you switch it to oil based in the future?

Very helpful! I’m looking to seal my driveway and wasn’t sure which type I should use. Water or oil based. However, I’m finding it difficult to buy oil based sealer? Far more options in the box stores for water based.

I have diesel spills on my asphalt and its soft. Which sealer is best at helping this or how do I get the diesel out and fix the fact that it is dissolving the asphalt binder?
