BASE TOUR
Are Hexagons the Bestagons in Factorio?
K3N1M0 has built an amazing Modular Megabase using Hexagons and even did it in a Death World setting. Base is making 4.8K Science / min

Nilaus, do you see it? Exactly! It isn't there! There are no 4 way train intersections.

Hexagons are indeed the bestagons

Unlike those cheating square cityblocks that just cover an infinite plane full of infinite parallel lines

Wow this dude kept even the minute details in mind while designing this base and damn it is a piece of art
Loving the base tours series <3

Id love to see a quick 5 minute of what it sounds like and how the perimeter looks like with biters enabled, really cool video though!

I think the 1 signal to regulate inserters serves two functions. First it assures that there is enough input so the stack inserters have full hands (12 items) reducing the number of swings they need to make. Second it assures that in the provider chest there is always at least enough to fill a logistic robot (4 items, 3 robots per stack inserter swing) minimising the number of logistic robot journeys that occur and so reducing the number of roboports needed to recharge logistic robots.

Liked just for the Hexagons are the Bestagons reference. But also because the base is awesome

Great design, I really love how each module is a miniature complete base

I believe the reason why they used buffer chest instead of requester at the outposts is that the items in the requester don't count as 'in the logistic network'

This has convinced me that we need localised logistics networks.

This reminds me that early on in my experience factorio I tried to hypothesize how to adequately pass supplies between separate logistics networks with requester/supply chests with inserters just passing those supplies along. I think the problem I had with trying to figure out how that system would work was that I had no idea exactly why I would want such a system at all.

Clearly trains are the real solution. Trains can obviously pass large amounts of materials between separate networks.

yes love these base reviews, its nice to see different designs to get inspiration from

You might consider that wall weak but when you hovered over those lazers the damage was 20+214 with a 1.5+3.3/s shooting speed. Those lazers are a biter blasting machine.

I fell in love with this factory design 😍

Really love the whole small hexagons making up one giant hexagon, very visually appealing and well designed.

Wow, I'm still pretty new to factorio, haven't gotten my first rocket to space yet, but this is mind boggling. Idk how to accomplish even a fraction of a percent of what this base shows.

"im gonna show you an awesome base, now isn't this awesome?"

Me: I don't even know what i am looking at😂

That reminds me of so many hex-based wargames... nice!

I didn't understand why robots everywhere until it hit me:
It's a honeycomb design.
These are worker bees.

One note on the base defense, you don't need many turrets when you are late into the game. Each turret does insane damage to the point where walls probably aren't required at this point.

Also love seeing the CGP Gray reference for the base :D
