Feeling misunderstood is something that happens a lot to people who have experienced trauma. It's not easy to understand the impact of trauma, especially if the even that traumatized you doesn't seem to be something that would traumatize someone else. Because trauma is a complex phenomenon close friends, colleagues, and family members may misunderstand you and begin to say things that are hurtful, careless, and inconsiderate of you.

It's important that we keep in mind that trauma can be anything you do not/did not have the coping skills to manage or cope with. It can be instant and unexpected. It almost never follows the same course as someone else's trauma.

In this video, I discuss how trauma is misunderstood and the common myths that you may notice in your own relationships.

Have you ever found yourself being misunderstood by those you trusted or believed understood you? Sadly, a lot of people lack understanding of what trauma actually is.

*"You still remember that!?!? It happened so long ago I thought you'd forgotten by now."* (in annoyed tone of voice)
I never forgot that line I even remember where I was standing hearing that. Worse thing to say! Still have issues with that individual and they didn't even cause the trama! Good video

Hahaha 😂 the motorcycles love you!
I appreciate this video so much, I have been doing better lately luckily but there are still episodes of depression.
I totally understand how you can develop compassion fatigue, it must be draining.

Hi Tamara, I don't comment very often but I do enjoy watching your videos, they are really helping me come to terms with my own traumatic life. I just wish I knew more about it all when I was younger, I know my life wouldn't have been so difficult but I'm on the right track now. It's never too late to have a happy childhood 😊 xx

My own siblings don’t understand my trauma. I have also lost friends due to this very issue as well. Have cut off a lot of people friends and family to focus on my career.

Hi Tamara. You mention existential type of questions after trauma. Is this common and can it look like existential crisis? I've had very obsessive and intrusive existential thoughts, about meaning of life and nature of reality etc very philosophical topics. This caused extreme anxiety and panic attacks. At one point it was so bad I thought I was about to have psychosis or that there's something very wrong with me. This all started after several bad/negative events happened in my life.

You don't need to apologise for the motorbikes Tamara, they add an extra unique dynamism to your videos, like the music at the beginning 😃👍😁
