In this video, I break down one of my most frequently asked questions.. "When do you shoot in 24fps and when do you shoot in 60fps for music videos?". Long story short, If I'm filming a performance scene with zero intentions of using the clip as slow motion, I film that scene in 24fps. If I'm filming a performance scene with intentions of slowing the clip down, I film in 60fps. If I'm filming a B-roll shot that may be a music video intro scene, filler B-roll, etc. then I stick to 60fps. Plain and simple!

In this video, I get into greater detail in regards to my thought process during music video sets of when to film in 24fps and when to film in 60fps. Enjoy!

Most of the time, shoot and export 24fps for music videos, but creativity is good at times, Bruno Mars made a 60fps music video and looks awesome, works perfect with the 90s look.

2:40 is there a tutorial on how to clip the audio then go into slow motion and back out like you mention here? I would be interested in learning this and not like messing up the whole sync of the song. Or if anyone else knows. Thanks ❤

Great video! Thank you! I also tried to get your free E-Book on shooting music videos but the link just took me to your website and I can’t find the E-Book there. Do you still have that available?

I shoot 4k 120 fps and just make my timeline 23.976 that way if I have something that I want in slo motion I’ll ALWAYS have that option. Not a fan of natural motion blur, I like the choppy look. Also incase there’s a good shot I can screenshot and have a picture with no motion blur. Yes shutter goes up and you lose light but with 12800 2nd base iso, you can get away with pretty much anything. And if not there’s $20 lights on amazon

Great! the only thing I’m wondering is that since you have to slow down 60fps footage to 40% in a 24fps timeline to not have any stutter you don’t have the option to make the clip less slowed down to like 60% because than stutter will be introduced. Right?

quick question: I am a music and tech content creator heere on youtube. I do keyboard/[oamp cpver videos. I usually shoot at 30FPS. i also am fond of having our band gigs filmed, also at 1080p30. Would it be fine to shoot keyboard playing videos at 60? haha

So if we are shooting a 60fps performance roll and planning to slow it down in post, do we have to let the artist rap 2x faster?
Otherwise, would it not look consistent with the performances that are shot in 24 fps?

if editing in premier you can shoot 60, 120, ect and then use posterize effect and revert the FPS back down to 24 frames to achieve the "cinamatic look" in post, right?

Thanks man! Bout to shoot a music video tomorrow. Is 50ss better than 48? When you said rounded up, did you just mean certain cameras? Mine can shoot 48 so I thought that was the best for 24fps

Also when you switch to 60 do you generally double the iso from what you had going in the 24? I wish more mirrorless cameras had the false color that you get with FilmicPro to show the perfect exposure. I try to use histograms but I get confused

Anyway thanks!
