Congress Chintan Shivir News: The first day of Congress' three-day 'Chintan Shivir', a brainstorming session, one party, one ticked was discussed as the party is eyeing 2024 elections has come to an end.
The conclave was held in Udaipur, Rajasthan and was focusing on the time-bound restructuring of the Congress, finding ways to combat the politics of polarisation and getting battle-ready for upcoming electoral challenges.

Why is Congress losing its credibility in India?

Main culprit is Rahul Gandhi, however failed to impress the nation and was perceived as a reluctant politician who was inept at the job. Voters were not enthused by his leadership and he became the center of jokes on social media.

The 133 years old organization with more than 15 million members has been unable to find one honest and capable leader from within the party. For some inexplicable reason, they keep going out of the way to ensure that Gandhi family keeps leading the party (and hence the nation) which does not go well with the politically aware generation

Weak Leadership : Though Sonia Gandhi gave a 10 years reign to the Party, She could not strengthen the foundations for various reasons . Essentially the congress reign was more focused on staying in power then strengthening the fundamentals . And whatever steps they took for the same, misfired especially because of their pro minority tactics and status quo attitude. This rot actually started during Indira’s reign itself, accelerated during Rajiv’s but the unfortunate demises of both brought back Congress. Sonia ascendancy is quite well known with Vajpayee govt. miscalculation with alliances and“Shining India” misfiring .Lets not even discuss RG at the moment . Sonia handed over the party is worst form than she was given charge of. That is lack of Leadership.

Ignorance of Regional leaders – There was a time when Congress chief ministers & regional leaders used to be very powerful during Nehru era. It was the group of regional leaders (called Syndicate) like K Kamaraj, the former Chief Minister of Madras, Sanjiva Reddy, an Andhra leader, Nijalingappa, the Chief Minister of Mysore and Atulya Ghosh, the president of Bengal Congress Committee which decided the successor of Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shashtri after their death. Today except a few region leaders, state presidents and CMs are virtually powerless and they draw their strength from the family.

Inability of change itself with time – When Janta Dal implemented Mandal Commission report (which Congress had ignored for a decade) and BJP hijacked Congress Ayodhya issue, Congress was almost clueless and it costed them two big states of Bihar & UP. Congress is almost non-existent in UP, Bihar, West Bengal etc. Minorities shifted towards regional parties in states where they had alternatives after 1992 Babri Mosque demolition. Congress lost chunk of OBC votes, SC votes to caste based parties and its core vote of BJP in UP and Bihar. Congress is string in Gujarat, MP, Rajasthan because there is no credible third force. Congress is seen as minority appeasement party and this image has costed so many seats for the party.

Ready to play junior partner - Congress has become a junior ally to Lalu Yadav in Bihar (till mid 90s Congress used to main opposition party against Lalu). In 1996 UP assembly election, Congress formed alliance with BSP and lost its SC votes to BSP forever.
