China mounts military drills around Taiwan in 'stern warning'

China launched three days of military exercises around Taiwan on Saturday after condemning Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen's meeting with U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

I came back from a great trip to Taiwan just last month. Wonderful people, beautiful scenery, and great food. I went with my brother and sister-in-law(who's born and raised there), and stayed with her parents. She's worried, and I feel so sorry for her, her beautiful parents, and all the people of Taiwan.
From my talking with people, as well as from what my brother's in laws said, the vast majority of Taiwanese want de jure independence. It's disgusting how very few countries recognize Taiwan as a country, but as part of China. Everyone there was proud to call themselves Taiwanese, even though the majority have Chinese ancestry, including my sister-in-law. It would be like Canada being called a territory of England. I also met Indigenous Taiwanese people. What rights will they have under Chinese rule?
Very sad, and worrying for a great country and people.
