Denzel in Training Day, Marlon Brando in The Godfather, Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood, Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises, Barry Pepper in Like Dandelion Dust, Michael Fassbender in Shame, Damian Lewis in Keane, Jason Patric in Rush, Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide, Guy Pearce in Lawless, Val Kilmer in Tombstone, Russell Crowe in 3:10 to Yuma, Clayne Crawford in The Killing of Two Lovers, Mel Gibson in The Bounty, and Christian Bale in The Fighter / American Psycho / The Machinist / Hostiles are some of the best performances I've ever seen.

I certainly base what i watch on the director/cinematographer/writer, as its like hiring someone with a resume instead of hiring someone without one. But when Denzel is in a film, i dont care if it was written by Steven Segal, or a 9 year old, at least i know one character is going to be worth watching.
