2024 has brought two major Google TV releases, including the Google Streamer 4K. This new device, alongside the Walmart-exclusive Onn 4K Pro, offers similar Google TV experiences with key differences. The Streamer, running Android 14, introduces smart home features and a better remote layout, while the Onn 4K Pro includes an always-listening microphone for hands-free control. The Streamer is more powerful and serves as a smart home hub, but it’s also twice the price of the Onn 4K Pro. Despite the price gap, both are affordable. So, which is the right choice for you?

What exactly is this video meant to do? There is zero info regarding actual streaming capabilities. Waste of time

Google should have kept their $50 Chromecast 4K for people that don’t need all the extra features this new streaming device has

Hate to say it but this review was bad. Typically you guys kill it. Felt like the review was "hey, it does smart home stiff, neat!" How does it compare to apple tv, Nvidia or other big dogs?

Been happy with my ONN 4K pro since I got it back in April. There's nothing at all that compels me to spend twice as much on the Google TV Streamer.

I purchased the Chromecast non-4K almost years ago when I went on sale. Should have purchased the 4K version, hopefully the TV Streamer will go on sale during Black Friday. And I'll use my old Chromecast on my bedroom tv. I agree I would trust Google more than ONN for timely updates.

You can connect additional storage if you know what you are doing

Google Streamer. How does it handle TrueHD, not ATMOS, streaming from Plex? Can it pass through via HDMI?

And I am talking about the TrueHD portion, NOT the lossy "Core" that is included.

Does the ONN do pass through for TrueHD?

I know ATMOS works but want to know if I should migrate from my CCWGTV to an ONN or the new Streamer.

I bought it and took it back next day ! My Onn 4k pro running so so much better !!!! You can talk to it like to Alexa and it actually comes with HDMI cord.... all this for half a price.... absolutely ridiculous ! Remote was lagging ! All movies from different streaming services also was lagging and seemed like they were running at 20 frames per second... trust me, I put it on another TV. I restart multiple times, but nothing helped. I even changed animation features in the developer option... also on Onn remote lits What are great future. Google really messed this one up

Can you please compare it to the Nvidia Shield Tv Pro?
I love my Shield, but it's wifi antennas are awful, and I strictly use it to stream YT, Netflix, and Stremio

My Onn 4k Pro is a little jerky playing back my video from a 4TB flash drive plugged into the USB port. I usually publish MP4 at less than 100Mbps, in h264 or h265. I wonder if the hardware in the Google is more capable at decoding h264 or h265? What kind of bitrate can they support?

Why no one talks about the fact that previous Chromecasts allowed for anyone connected to the network to cast from their netflix accounts in their phones and now with the newer versions, when they try to cast the newer versions require you to log in? (with all the problems that tat means).

Can it actually stream most videos when using Chrome browser?

The software support for these is a fair point - the Chromecast 4K/HD are getting 5 years, so the Streamer likely will also, but the Onn streamers will probably get closer to 3 years. I know the 2021 Onn box hasn't gotten an update since the summer and is likely EOL.

I know it might be a stupid question but how does the upscaling compare to Nvidia Shield and Apple TV 4K

I have the Onn 4k pro, bought it because of all these reviews saying it doesn't lag.

Well it LAGS, lags like crazy. It doesn't stutter like other devices, it just straight up goes crazy and becomes unusable sometimes. Scrolling through Netflix has a noticeable delay for when you press the button and the action occurs on the TV. It's very much a mid device, it worked great new but not sure what happened.

I bought the ONN 4K pro when it came out and it's been nothing but trouble. I have 2 user profiles. one of them randomly stopped working. if you use another app and go to Youtube, it stutters. Only option is to reboot. I had no option but to abandon it and go back to the Chromecast.

Thinking about getting this for my mom so she can watch all the movies I've purchased from Google tv. The movies I watch on my phone. Here's the question ❓ can this Google tv streamer work with a older TV to be able to stream Google tv to a older TV or do I have to buy a smart TV for this to work? Or can it interface through the RCA plugs in the back of a older TV? Thanks
