i think he's best as a support/tank build. you dont really need to make the mark hit round 1. you need him to survive enough to reduce enemy hp.

I just finished testing my E5 Phorcys. While energy is nice I think him doing an active round 2 is better because there are more buffs around. That being said him placing that HP devouring mark round 1 is pretty nice.

The removal of buff of his first skill is not a counter to his skill itself. the damage only applies once you receive a buff after he applies the mark.
