FOR THOSE OF YOU HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THAT UPPER ASSEMBLE I was too. This video starts with it OFF. But it's not difficult once you know that procedure. You should have a small round rod in your package. Look at :17 in this video. It is immediately above the words "locking pin". Spin the upper assembly until a recessed notched lines up with the hole on the pole...NOTE: it is inline with the screw on the side of the pole. Once lined up, insert the rod into that hole (It won't go very far) and turn the upper assembly until is spins off. Look at :42...this is putting the new one ON but its the same process to get the old one OFF. RYOBI: THIS ENTIRE PROCEEDURE IS MISSING FROM THE VIDEO!

From there, take the new upper assembly and insert the hex nut down into the recess of the assemble. The flange of the nut will be flush with the inside of the upper assemble and AWAY from the unit. From there you spin the assemble back on the screw and lock it back down with that rod. Hope this helps everyone!

Serrated orange blades do NOT snap down over the post. The oval receptacle at the end of the orange blade does not fit all the way down over the oval enlarged area at the bottom of the post. It is not deep enough. Blade is just very loose and flops around. Does it get locked into position when the assembly is turned back onto the trimmer head?

I have the same thing and how the heck did you get the old piece off for me to mount this? You went straight to the metal part but never said how to get the spindal off to begin with

Something that is so frustrating is how hard it is to push the head back onto the upper assembly - you make it look as easy as pie, but it is VERY hard to do. We are DIYers about everything, but we were left wondering what was wrong - put the spring in or not (you don't say, but yes you do need the spring in), did we get a defective part (no, everything was good), or did we just need superman to come help ... after much struggling and aggravation, we finally got the assembly to squeeze together so the arrows lined up and it was locked. We're glad there's a video here, but it really could be done better.

I love you! Thank you so much for an easy explanation!! I’ve got another power tool if you could tell me how to get it up to snuff that’d be great!!!

(I have a brain injury from Iraq -army- that makes the written word hard to understand.)

At :28 you removed the spring, then picked up something, looked like a black bolt, stuck it on the blade hsg.(?), then attached to shaft. From there seems fairly simple but no idea what that 'bolt' had to do with anything! Would you mind clearing that up for me?

Does not address installing on a Ryobi curved shaft expand+it unit

Do we not need to put the spring back on?

for those of you having trouble putting the lower housing onto the upper... just grab a pair of gloves and twist. I was trying without and couldnt get it in the locked position. Put on gloves, went on right away. Smarter not harder as they say

The demonstrator made it look easy to twist it from lock to unlock position and vice versa, it is not. They are twisted together extremely tight and depending on your strength, you might need to get a large wrench to twist it off.

When you removed the blade head and put on the bump feed, it looks like you put the spring back but never said anything about it. Details, details.

There is no way to remove the string tool from the 18V brushless string trimmer. I've been sitting here for almost 2 hours and have almost disassembled the thing. Please help

That’s about half the instructions I need, how about you show me how to get the other part off the end of the trimmer before you show me how to put this part on! I’m sure there’s a video on here somewhere that has useful instructions. I’m off to find it.

I can't get mine to reopen so I can change the blades on it

Unhelpful.
I can’t get the housing open to even begin installing. And neither manual, video, or website offered any help.
I’m sure a drop of oil and a hard wack could unstick it, but I can’t afford to break it so I’m taking it back tomorrow.
