When the insurance company plays doctor 🙃 #comedy #chronicallyill #ehlersdanlos #shorts

I'm fighting with my insurance company right now over one of my genetic connective tissue panels from back in December 2023. According to them, my doctor's documentation did not adequately demonstrate how the testing would lead to a treatment plan and improve my health and quality of life. But instead of requiring the doctor to submit new documents, the appeals process for my insurance company relies entirely on ME, the patient, and MY ability to explain the necessity of my medical care.

How is this appropriate or effective? Or is that the point? Because it seems to me that the appeals process is specifically designed to trip up already vulnerable patients and deny them care in favor of lining the insurance companies' pockets.

Insurance companies should not be playing doctor! And they most definitely should not be using underhanded tactics to deny care and increase their profits. I'm unsure what the answer is, but I know it's not this.

What's your experience with a complicated appeals process after insurance denied your claim?
