I didn't think Pokemon had the balls to pull a "put a level 70 boss in the starting area" classic JRPG move but here we are

I mean, why would you willingly approach the massive fully-evolved Pokémon with glowing red eyes when your team is probably not even level 20? First time I saw that Rapidash, I noped the hell away and didn't even think about disturbing it.

Encountered this the other day. Spent about 10 minutes luring it over to me with berries, trying to suprise it. Team was only about lv. 10 so when I finally engaged it I was suprised to learn it was lv. 30!
After I put up a good fight, getting it to about half health while trying to catch it, I swiftly dodge-rolled to the nearest body of water and laughed at the poor pathetic fire-type from the comfort of my damp socks... then I learned it can use fire blast or whatever that ranged move was.

ah yes, the Alpha Rapidash that we probably almost ran into on accident at the beginning of the game while exploring. i remember hearing the ominous alpha music for the first time, found this behemoth, approached close enough to check its level then noped tf out when i realized it was level 40. that was f*cking BALLSY to put such a high leveled alpha that early on!

This is exactly how I felt when I learned this. The second time I came across rapidash, I could beat it, but barley. I used it as grinding until my team was on par with rapidash. Maybe that's why Gamefreak put a level 40 rapidash there.

Yeah. I explore before going story mode. I ran into this thing. When they told me I would have to fight an Alpha I was all like "You want me to what?"

I mean, if it _was_ level 15, it wouldn't be a Rapidash (according to evolution level logic). Ponyta doesn't evolve until like level 40 or so.
Not all of the local alphas have that excuse, though.
