Solve Radical Equations - Example 4 - Two Radicals

Hello, again. You have responded to questions I have asked about Sum to Difference Equations and other mathematics topics. In this instance, why is it not the case that we don't square the two square roots on the left of the equation? Some videos say this would be more difficult but don't say why. I thought it would be a case of simply multiplying / expanding the brackets
