05 - Solving Radical Equations & Identifying Extraneous Solutions - Part 1

Показать описание
In this lesson, we will learn how to solve radical equations, which are equations in algebra that contain radical expressions. The basic technique is to move all radicals to one side of the equal sign, then square both sides of the equation in order to remove the radicals. Then we can solve as usual. We must be careful however because we might introduce extraneous solutions which we will need to check for in the final answer by substitution into the original equation.

Sir you are the reason why I passed my complex subjects (Calc, stats, physics etc.) in senior highschool as a STEM student. Thank you so much, your videos helped me alot.

I've been afraid of math for many years, but after reading the book 'A Mind for Numbers by Barbara Oakley, I just realized that math is like learning another language and what you need is to learn the techniques and to practice to dominate it. English is my second language, I started learning it when I entered young adulthood, so I write and speak fluently now, but someday I yearn to become fluent in math too. You Sir teach it in a way that makes me fall in love with math and I have fallen in love with your brain too. You just explain it so well and makes it look easy.

Sir, you are a fantastic teacher .
Your teaching method makes it easier for students to understand how to work with algebra. You explain every step of the way in a slow, and understanding way that can be followed.

You are a gem of a math teacher. Your students are lucky. Can you please make a video explaining

Good lesson, but I'm glad this is not a classroom setting where I could not take a little time to think, at 22:06 I had to pause the video till I could figure out how 3x X 3x = 9x^
It took me a few minutes, but I got it, 3 X 3 = 9 and x X x = x^
edit: a minute and a half letter I realise how much more I'm going to have to learn.

You're a good man Charlie!!  Nice videos.  I would like to see you make some DIY engineering videos.  Maybe with electronics.

I hope someone can help, but I’m wondering what’s the equivalent definition of “Conjugate surds” in the US curriculum?

Just like how outside of US exponents are called indices, what’s conjugate surds in US called?

5sqrt(x)=3x-2 (1)
BEFORE SQUARING INCLUDE :
3x-2 must be POSITIF as is equal to 5sqrt(x) wich POSITIF.
Therfore equation (1) is EQVT to:
3x-2>=0 ===> x>=2/3 D of validity
25x = (3x-2)^2 ==> x=1/9 or x=4 IN D
So S= { 4 }
x=1/9 is not D ==> it is not solution
