Thanks for posting! Just had a rude person call the office today asking to speak with me, they wanted to know if I had a bachelors or an associates before coming in as a new patient. Then they went on and on about how uneducated hygienists with an associates degree are. I think people don’t realize an associates in hygiene requires 2 years of pre requisites and 2 years of clinical. So yeah 4 years total 🙄

Lol basically. Just get an associates degree and save a ton of $$$

Personally I’m choosing to go for a Dental Hygiene Bachelors degree. Is rigorous and not necessary if you just want to work. However, if you want to be able to teach in the future, or work as an advisor than you need a bachelors. God forbid something happens to your hands, your career is over. I’m doing what I think is best to help ensure my longevity in this field.

This comment has nothing to do with the video but just want to personally thank you for your videos. Had my first dentist checkup in 12 years and they gave me an amazing report said I have fantastic teeth gums everything was great and couldn't believe it's been 12 years since I've seen a dentist. While I don't think I was horrible in regards to oral hygenie before ur videos (just brushed and mouthwash) I didn't floss and and had some really bad eating and teeth habits I did (chewing ice, soda etc.). Started watching ur videos around 6 months ago.... Bought a waterpik an electric toothbrush and started flossing every day.... Floss and rinse after I and my mouth has never felt better. Ur the one who convinced me to go back to the I found a really great office and dental hygienist who worked on me today. Also set up my next 6 month appointment and had the best report I've ever had and it's thank to u. So I just wanted to let you know that and know ur really changing people's lives!

It’s a lot like an associates level RN vs. a bachelors level RN. We do the same job and both had to qualify for the same professional licensure exam. Bachelor’s just gives more research, ethics, and leadership education for managerial roles or to continue on to a graduate degree if desired.

This is true for clinicians! However, I just want to say I went in with the idea of an associate’s being sufficient for me. But then, —I’m closer to 40– one of my advisors mentioned something in my city called bachelor completion plan for licensed hygienists. You can be a working licensed RDH with an associate’s but go back and apply to pursue a Bachelor’s ALL ONLINE! You get to choose a specialization and be a certified EFDA too if you wish and you can later teach with a bachelor’s if your body can’t take clinical work anymore. The RDHs currently teaching me in clinic mostly are adjuncts and work in an office part time. But my school pays almost $60 an hour to teach, so I just liked the idea of more options… I’d already have a bachelor’s if I went onto pursue MPH too.

About to finish my second semester getting my associates so I can get into the hygienist program! Very tired! This made me feel better! I already get made fun of for being a community college student

As someone who is about to graduate with an associates this is very comforting. I didnt think a bachelor degree would make a difference but I have people from from class perusing that path after graduation. Makes no sense to be but to each there own🤷🏼‍♀️

A pro for having a bachelor degree is you can pursue advanced studies more readily vs having an associate.

Thank you so much for posting this, I personally was infuriated when the dental hygiene program I attended without adding any more years or quarters the the 4 years of 2 with prereqs + 2 in the program now gives students a bachelors, but if you want to do it retro actively they are claiming that its an additional 1-2 years…how does this make any sense that you have now spent 5-6 years of schooling and only have a bachelors degree, what dental hygiene classes or prerequisites did they remove to make room for the added classes you supposedly need to get the bachelors that apparently are not necessary?! It seems like a money making gimmick to me to have gone to school for 4 years and only receive an associates degree

If you get your associates first you can still go back and get your bachelors, correct?

Doesn’t matter assoc. or bachelors. Same pay- Drs don’t care. They want the hygienist that will work for the least pay.

I’m only considering bachelors bc I just know my back and neck and hand is gonna be so bad so I wanna be able to teach once I can’t handle it anymore 😂😂😂
