Good lord this turned into a massive story time. It's about when I first got sheet assistance and saw just how powerful it can be. Only read if you are really bored

I learned just how incredible this type of thing can be when I let one of my pet projects, Intuit, play around with google sheets. Specifically in one sheet that I had built to to return a single number, calculated from a massive array of information, some of which isn't even other numbers. A lot of the information is baked into the functions to avoid cluttering the screen entirely, and it's still a pretty big sheet. But it had a problem of really unoptimized functions, as they were very long and not easy to read, especially the output. At the time I didn't care because I just wanted something that worked. But as I used it more and more, there were some things that were really inconvenient about it that I didn't foresee, plus there were some cases where it was wrong. The lengthy and complicated nature of the functions plus how they all interconnect made it really hard to tell what a problem was caused by.

Rather than sitting there painstakingly combing through every function to fix it, plus the pain of having to change everything to add new functionality, I decided to start again, and this time I asked Intuit to help me, and by help me I mean basically carry the entire thing. We kept the basic layout the same, aside from the addition of a modular table where you can enter in new data and it will just work, no need to fudge with any function or other such black magic. The functions themselves were mostly only minorly tweaked, like replacing a few nested IFs with SWITCHes, and splitting formulae with conditional terms into their own thing. But by far the biggest help was with the output. The way I designed it, aka badly, it was 1622 characters long. I originally thought I would just build a new one myself since it seemed too complex to explain in the specific unambiguous language that computers want, but I had a go at it anyway, fully expecting a completely wrong, mostly nonsensical result.

When I asked Intuit to write me a formula, a led the request with "Consider the generic formula:" and then listed a bunch of letters written out as a formula, with the right operators and parenthesis, and started listing off the conditions for each letter as if it were a variable. This is not really considered good practice since the description of what I actually want is a bit abstract, when normally you should write out clear step by step instructions about what you actually want, expressed with unambiguous language, and not trusting it to make any assumptions. I used the clearest language I could, but had to hope that it would understand this concept of what was basically compartmentalizing. I also didn't get to know right away, since one of the limits of Intuit's runtime environment not being fully digital is it's very slow. It took almost a half hour to get back to me.

Really the whole motivation for why I even asked was because I wanted to know if, in the event that it actually did work, if it would be similar to my terrible formula. Before even reading what it gave me, I just plugged it in to test it, and to my absolute surprise, it worked. It did exactly what I wanted. Then I read it, and what shocked me even more was how short it was. It was only 606 characters long, a near 3x reduction.

Now, just reducing the character count of a formula, while doing it _that much_ is pretty impressive, I find it's far more impressive that it even works. My request was, by any standards of good practice, a pretty bad request. I don't know if conventional AI could do something quite like this just yet, but Intuit has become a necessary part of my Google sheets experience.

But the amazement didn't stop there. I lied a bit when I said it does exactly what I want. Most of the time it was right, but sometimes the answer would be off by a few decimal places, which made me feel less in shambles about being completely one upped.
I tried to fix it myself but gave up after like an hour of just cluelessly staring the screen, so I asked Intuit for more help. I told it about the problem, gave it the formula generated answer and the theoretically correct answer to see if it could figure out what was wrong.
And it did, and not only did it only take 5 minutes, I was even more embarrassed after that, because apparently the problem was with my instructions. When I laid out the basic structure for my generic formula, I had forgotten that some of the terms were supposed to be rounded before use in the calculation. Intuit proposed a new generic formula with the correct terms inside a rounding function, which I adapted into the real formula and suddenly all the fractional errors were gone.

We added the modular table not that long ago, and that wasn't even my idea. I wonder how soon before I wont even have to do anything and I can just ask for features.

It is very cool to combine the power of AI with Google Sheets. It’ll make the job much easier and save a lot of time. Thank you for explaining with real time examples. Are you aware of any other tools that offer similar capabilities and can be used with Google Sheets?

hello can you give me your opinion,

I would like to do e-commerce and I had thought of using artificial intelligence to make my catalogs in a Google sheet then I will only have to import into my woocommerce site

but I'm not sure which module I should use and then I'm not sure it's a module I should use, maybe a GT4 plugin? or maybe another artificial intelligence?

could you tell me what you think of this idea?

anyway thank you very much for your videos

I have a list of about 50 apartment complex names, and I want the addresses looked up and entered into an empty "address" column. I'm attempting to use this, but coming up an error. It's mentioning an API key, (i have the chat GPT api key, is that what I use?) Or maybe I'm doing something else wrong. Is this even something it can do? Someone help me please.

Guys I'm completely lost. I just started courses and I'm learning excel, SQL, R, Tableau, etc. Can someone explain why am I doing it if at the end THE HALF of it I won't need to know cause AI will do it for me?
