Adding Fills Between Your Chords with the G Major Scale - Beginner Country Bluegrass Guitar Lesson

In the previous lesson of this series, we learned the 5th position of the G major pentatonic scale and I showed you how to apply this scale to a basic country and bluegrass chord progression. In this lesson, we’re going to start breaking out of the pentatonic scale box using five additional major scale notes. Adding these extra notes is the first step towards making your fill riffs sound more country and bluegrass. I’ll give you some pointers on how you can use the G major scale to create riffs and we’ll also have a tablature download with several nice major scale riffs to get you started!

The Gear I Use:
Acoustic Guitar - Martin D18 Ambertone Finish, Collings D2H, Atkin D28, Martin D-16GT, Martin D-15
Guitar Pick - BlueChip TP40
Thumb Pick - Dunlop 9003P White Plastic Thumbpicks, Large
Capo - Shub S1 Deluxe

Devin, this is Sheeba from Bangalore, India. This lesson is just unbelievable. I’ve heard this maybe about 10 times and got the hang of it now. Can’t wait to try it out... heard your other lessons too!! It’s just fantastic. Just what I wanted... a little fill riff to break the monotonous rhythm. A great channel!! Great teaching...Thanks a million!!

I really appreciate the way you teach mentioning 8th, 16th notes and relating it to strumming and soloing. I will sign up for your lessons.

It seems I'm coming full circle. Just over five years ago in 2012 I finally got around to picking up the guitar, mainly because of my falling in love with country music while in college.Yet, at this point I'm not quite good at(as you would say) "understanding what I'm playing "scale wise . I still have to master playing scales as well as improve my ear training. So this video I expect will be a great help.

just what I was looking for - was just starting my scales. I mainly play acoustic so have mainly focused on chord patterns for my first year or so of learning but want that extra spice lead riffs give acoustic playing. Thanks.
