This is the first time I'm seeing an Indian special educator speaking from the perspective of the child rather than that of society, teacher and parents. It is so comforting. The past 8 years have been exhausting to constantly meet abusive ABA based, out of touch, arrogant in their ignorance special educators. As a late identified Autistic person who wanted to work with Neurodivergent kids but didn't know what courses were available, I signed up at Dilkhush in Bombay for a special educator course. It was some of the most traumatising wix months of my life being unsupported, unaccommodated and eventually forced to leave when hhe principal berated me in the middle of a meltdown saying that I was unfit to work with these kids because of my disabilities. She ignored all of my strengths and continued academic excellence, solely focusing on the challenges I was begging to be accommodated for. Since then it has been 'expert' after 'expert' showing their ignorance and making me increasingly concerned that kids are being schooled by all these people who might be well schooled themselves but are completely uneducated about the subject they claim to be proficient in.
