This is one of my favorite channels to escape the insanity of the world

My grandfather actually built the ship, on loan from Warner Bros. He also worked on Illustrated Man, creating the funky foam trees.

As a kid in the early 70's, I remember thinking that "The Ship" looked super-futuristic. I LOVED the whole "Apes" universe, and still do. Thank you for this!

I'm a witness to the ship being at that Kanab restaurant. I was about 13 and on a family trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We ate at the restaurant. I mentioned to my dad that the ship, which was part of the restaurant's signage and out in the parking lot, looked like TPOTA ship. We asked the waitress and she confirmed it. I walked over to it and pulled off a small piece of internal foam that was accessible through an opening. Unfortunately, this cherished souvenir was lost over time. Thanks for bringing back some great memories!

A ship so easy to pilot even a Chimpanzee could do it. 😅

I still have a picture of this spaceship as the hotel sign. We were driving to Salt Lake City from phoenix in 1978 and going through Kanab I saw this upright on the side of the road. I stopped and took a picture of it.. I recognized it as the plant of the apes ship.. it was rather cool…

I loved that ship and Mars Gravity Probe 1 from Robinson Caruso on Mars.

No mistaking the heavy influence of NASA's Project Gemini spacecraft on the window layout of ANSA's Liberty/Icarus

Jim Aupperle & Stephen Czerkas are two amazing F/X people (sadly Stephen passed away) but I had the privilege of hanging out with Jim back in the 80s/90s. The last time I saw Jim Aupperle was at our mutual friend's wedding. He was telling me about the unbelievable project he was working on at that time, NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Thanxx to the world wide web I am in touch with him now. NIGHTMARE is still his all time favorite project.

Now I have to watch PoTA again.
Fun fact: the music in the scene where Taylor is being walked through the ape village was sampled by Snake River Conspiracy in the song Breed.

Dan you are way too cool. I am about your same age and a lot of thoughts and feelings about seeing these films as a kid is often times exactly as I felt when I viewed them for the first time too.

Thank you for this video.
You know, when I was 12, this movie was on My friends big Zenith color tv.
When I saw the ship in the water, it amazed me!
How futuristic!
Awesome ship!

Loved this vid. Another ship that captured my young imagination long ago! Would love to see more of the late Greg Jein’s work on your show. His work was everywhere! I think he may have built or repaired a “Visitors” ship for “V” producer and creator Kenneth Johnson

“How cool is that” quote ranks up near “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” 😊

Interesting! 20th Century Fox held tours after they sold off there back lot in 1968 and 1969, I did the tour both years. The studio had built a full scale ship for Planet of the Apes, not only the space capsule but two full sections a first and second stage that fit under the space command ship, it was placed by sound stage 11 and towered ten feet over the top of the outside of the stage. I am not sure why the lower sections were not used but was told by the tour guide, "that the entire rocket was dumped in a lake for a scene in a new science fiction movie." Thank you Dan for being a dedicated film buff and putting together this very informative video. I talked about this movie for a year after I saw it in Westwood Village, I was age 8. 😉,
