Thanks for the best "lesson" ever. I once went to the park, sat on a bench, and played for the squirrels. They seemed to like it.

Tomlin, I have been playing music for decades and this is the best advice ever. I always want to be better, or perfect, immediately! I am going to forward this to all my musician friends.

Definitely! Having fun is so important. If you go for a jam and are having fun, you'll relax and when you relax you'll play a whole lot better and when you play better you'll like what you are doing and start having more fun...

Wow! Haven’t gotten through the entire video and I feel so much better. Best lesson ever.

Very uplifting, supportive and kind words. Learning harmonica can often be frustrating and challenging and your compassionate advice is a godsend.

Several of my friends have "fun" watching me play, at least they seem too, they laugh a lot:(, so I guess I am providing some entertainment! You're a fantastic teacher!!:)

It's amazing how many times you are questioning yourself and the answer appears as soon as you open your email. You've answered my questions about practice within 5 minutes of me thinking about it just as Joe Filisko answered my questions about tongue-blocking with his first post on facebook after I'd been thinking about it. I don't know how you do it, but THANKS!!

Thank you Tomlin, I am so reassured by what you say. I confess that I have often fallen into the traps you talked about. I started to learn when I was 71, it was on my bucket list. My teacher is so understanding, and always stresses that we have fun. Thank you for saying what I really needed and wanted, to hear.

I met you at Edinburgh 2016 and to me you epitomise what a teacher should be. Great lesson, good words. Many thanks. Mick.

You are doing a wonderful job! I liked that you touched this part of music which is so crucial really. Having fun with the instrument, having a positive relationship with the instrument is important really. This was one of your best video

Last Christmas, my sister gave me a special 20 in C. It was such a great present! At the age of 60, I started playing harmonica enthusiastically. I had hardly played it since I was in my twenties. I have had such a fun time, and spent a silly amount of money on harps!
I think this video is very good advice, and I hit the like button - something I rarely do for talk videos because I use my liked list on YouTube as a source of random music. But you have a great message here!

I can totally relate to that. I started playing harmonica 15 months ago, because I couldn't play the guitar anymore from computer tendinitis and it really frustrated me. But somehow, after 10 years looking at my guitars and feeling sad, I decided to take control of the situation, did a lot of research and understood that my only chance was to strengthen my arms through fitness and I'm doing it 4 times a week since last year and having a lot of progress through hard work. Now I'm back at playing guitar (doing it better than ever, but using limited time very wisely to progress) AND learning harmonica in parallel. Whenever my arms hurt from guitar playing, I switch to harmonica and I'm totally happy with it. I'm in a race with myself to see if I'm a better soloist at harmonica or guitar and it's definitely a joy. You are my primary source Tommy for the harp, thank you man. By the way, you Scottish people are nice, it's frightening. Last time I was in Edimburgh everybody was soooo friendly, I've felt at home (bear in mind I'm Brazilian 😁).

I had to get back to this video and listen to it once more! U know, I've waited for years so I could pay for my music classes and all, and that made me think that i'm "late" in music, so it make me look and my colleagues and think "man, you must play and study more, ur not even close to them" and a lot of self criticism "helps" in building, at times, a not so healthy relationship with my instruments one time or another... And what the hell, I must let it go more! Thanks a lot for it, Tomlin! Meant the world to me!
