That’s what I’ve been doing for 45 years. Torquing a vertical spine with a posterior rotation of the buttocks.

I found Mike Austin (515 yard pro tournament record) six years ago and got my 30 yards and more back.

The Austin method has the spine moving like a bell clapper with the 7th vertebrae, the stationary swing center as the fulcrum. Imagine the back instep and swing center forming a straight line going back and to the front instep coming down. The”SC” remains relatively stationary in 3D space.

A very different but visually similar swing.

Joe Dante describes it well in his “Four Magic Moves to Winning Golf”.) And Toski alludes to this with his hip slide.

Break the barrel then turn, not twist, the spine. Stand with heels against a wall, bend over into address position and make the swing - a posterior rotation (the widely accepted method) will bump you off the wall.

Mike saw Tiger winning at the Masters in ‘97 and stated that he’ll have physical problems with that swing. Tiger had to withdraw in ‘23.

Mike was 64 (maybe a bit younger) when he hit that 515 yard Guinness record shot and was recorded (by strobe light) at 160mph swing speed in his prime.

He was recorded by modern equipment at 133 at age 70 up to his stroke at 77. Nicklaus swung at 116 but as Mike firmly pointed out, he wasn’t trying to win a driving contest.

Mike’s foremost protege Mike Dunaway became a LD champion as did many other students of Mike. Dunaway offered $10, 000 on the cover of Golf (or Golf Digest?) to anyone who could outdrive him. And when John Daly was asked after he won the PGA with record-breaking drives if he was the longest back home, he said no, there’s a few guys longer- one of them was Dunaway.

Many ways to skin a cat. Homer Kelley in his scientific approach suggests a million variations to getting a ball from point A to B.

Wrenching a young spine certainly works but I wonder how many last past their 40s?

I’m 69 and carry 240 and 250+ on a good day. And I’m pain-free.

I’m sure the swing suggestion will add distance; it did for me in my early 20s and served me well over 45 years.

Fairways and Greens!

Best to practice hitting straight then go for more distance if your game needs it

You didn't lift your left heel on your first swing Liam, you did on the second and it worked.🙌

Do this if you wanna be unstable. Most can’t do this move and maintain posture and it’s not that big of a power move either.

Has he stuck with that? Has he ?? This was ages ago and Liam is generally a decent driver with the occasional wild one left or right
